Hello dear #Hive friends!.... After a busy morning, I had some time to go out for some midday photos here in my village. So, taking street photos was not very feasible due to the extreme heat and very high humidity, so I decided to walk to the small river that surrounds the village and take some pictures there under the shade of the trees.

¡Hola queridos amigos de #Hive!... Después de una mañana ajetreada, tuve algo de tiempo para salir fotos a pleno mediodía aquí en mi pueblo. Entonces, hacer fotos callejeras no era algo muy factible debido al calor extremo y humedad muy altas, así que decidí caminar hasta el pequeño río que circunda el pueblo y hacer algunas fotografías allí bajo la sombra de los árboles.

Despite the intense heat, the sunlight was tempered by a low ceiling of even, whitish clouds, which produce a very even, flat light effect but without the annoying excessive contrasts of direct sunlight. This type of light is ideal for taking photos at the edges of the gallery forests and even under the shadows of some trees. I am referring to photos of this type, close-ups and macros.

A pesar del intenso calor, la luz solar se encontraba atenuada por un bajo techo de nubes parejas y blanquecinas, las cuales producen un efecto de luz plana y muy pareja pero sin los molestos contrastes excesivos de la luz solar directa. Este tipo de luz es ideal para hacer fotos en los bordes de los bosques de galería e inclusive bajo las sombras de algunos árboles. Me refiero a fotos de este tipo, de acercamientos y macros.

Considering the light, weather, location and other additional factors, I figured I would find "a few insects to photograph" so I opted to mount my trusty old Tokina ATX-PRO 100mm f/2.8 d MACRO lens on my camera and headed out of town, heading west towards the riverbed.

Evaluando la luz, el clima, el lugar y otros factores adicionales, supuse que hallaría "unos cuantos insectos para fotografiar" así que opté por montar mi viejo y fiel objetivo Tokina ATX-PRO 100mm f/2.8 d MACRO en mi cámara y me encaminé a las afueras del pueblo, en dirección Oeste, hacia el cauce del río.

Wow, I certainly found some insects to photograph!.... But not only insects, in fact during this time of the year, nature is exuberant here. The rains change everything and life expresses itself in a vehement and pleasing way in each of its creatures, even in the simplest details.

¡Caray, vaya que sí hallé insectos para fotografiar!... Pero no solamente insectos, en realidad durante esta época del año, la naturaleza es exuberante aquí. Las lluvias lo cambian todo y la vida se expresa de manera vehemente y grata en cada una de sus criaturas, también en los detalles mas simples.

Because of the excellent light I decided not to use the flash for any of the photos, so I set my camera to manual mode but with the autofocus on centre point. Over the years I have learnt that there are two ways to make macros (at least in my empirical photographic world, I mean). The first one with the aperture quite closed (an f/14 for example) and using flash, so the subject is well lit and completely in focus. And the second way, using the aperture quite wide open (an f/7 and similar) without using flash and achieving a subject focused on a main point and the rest of the visual plane beautifully out of focus... And I tend to like the second way better!

Debido a la excelente luminosidad decidí no usar el flash para ninguna de las fotos, así que puse mi cámara en modo manual pero con el enfoque automático de punto central. Con el paso de los años he aprendido que hay dos formas de hacer macros (al menos en mi empírico mundo fotográfico, quiero decir). La primera con el diafragma bastante cerrado (un f/14 por ejemplo) y usando flash, así el sujeto queda bien iluminado y completamente enfocado. Y la segunda manera, usando el diafragma bastante abierto (un f/7 y similares) sin usar flash y lograr un sujeto enfocado en un punto principal y el resto del plano visual lindamente desenfocado... ¡Y a mi me suelen gustar más los de la segunda manera!

So, I scrutinised the nooks and crannies in the path near the river and the edges of the small forest which grows along its banks. Then, depending on the luminosity and the distance at which I wanted to take the pictures, I opted for different combinations of apertures and ISO, always trying to keep shutter speeds high enough to allow me to shoot handheld (I hate tripods, sorry).

Así fue como me dediqué a escudriñar los rincones del camino cercano al río y los bordes del pequeño bosque el cual crece a lo lardo de sus orillas. Entonces, dependiendo de la luminosidad y de la distancia a la cual quisiese hacer las fotos, opté por distintas combinaciones de aperturas es ISO, siempre en procura de mantener velocidades de obturación lo suficientemente altas para permitirme disparar con la cámara en la mano (odio los trípodes, lo siento).

Exposure was not a problem. As I said before, the brightness was excellent, I only selected the matrix light assessment mode (full frame) and I was careful to keep the exposure between -0.3EV and -0.7EV, relying on the aperture and exposure values to achieve this. What was more complicated was to select the white temperature, as the light was not "direct sunlight" and it was not "cloudy weather", so I had to make do with a manual adjustment to 5000K, which resulted in photos with slightly warmer colours than the real ones, which I corrected later in Adobe Camera Raw by adjusting the temperature and additionally on the resulting JPGs I used photographic filters between 12% and 25% in Photoshop.

La exposición no fue un problema. Como dije antes, la luminosidad era excelente, solo seleccioné el modo de evaluación lumínica matricial (fotograma completo) y me cuidé de mantener la exposición entre -0.3EV y -0.7EV apoyándome en los valores de apertura y exposición para logra esto. Lo que sí fue más complicado, fue seleccionar la temperatura delos blancos, pues la luz no era del tipo "Luz solar directa" y tampoco era "clima nublado", así que tuve que arreglármelas con un ajuste manual a 5000K, cosa la cual redundó en fotos con colores ligeramente más cálidos que los reales, cuya corrección realicé posteriormente en Adobe Camera Raw ajustado la temperatura y adicionalmente sobe los JPG resultantes usé filtros fotográficos ente 12% y 25% en Photoshop.

Todas las fotografías fueron realizadas usando mi cámara Nikon D7000 y en formato RAW. El procesado se realizó en Adobe Camera Raw y otros ajustes secundarios fueron llevados a cabo en las imagenes JPG exportadas de las originales usando Photoshop CS6... Algunos retoques, enderezados, recortes y marcas de agua fueron hechos con PhotoScape 3.7.

All photographs were taken using my Nikon D7000 camera and in RAW format. The processing was done in Adobe Camera Raw and other secondary adjustments were made on the JPG images exported from the originals using Photoshop CS6... Some retouching, straightening, cropping and watermarking was done with PhotoScape 3.7.
