Grilled Eggplant With Sweet-Spicy Sauce

Grilled food always offers new experiences with a variety of interesting sauces to try and be loved by your taste buds.

Serving grilled eggplant with a mix of peanut sauce and chili flakes.

Purple eggplant is one of my favorite vegetables, but it's served with a traditional chili sauce. This dish requires me to fry the eggplant first. Then the fried eggplant is added to the sauce.

This time I will serve eggplant in a way that is almost similar to the traditional recipe here, but the difference is in the sauce. If the traditional recipe uses chili sauce, but in this recipe, I will use peanut sauce combined with chili flakes.

Grilled eggplant is common in my area, especially in our tribe. It's just that serving grilled eggplant with a slightly sweet sauce is not common. Even though it's not uncommon, it doesn't mean I don't dare to try it. In fact, I was more and more challenged to try the recipe.

Honestly, I made this recipe inspired by several recipes on the internet that serve grilled eggplant with a sweet or salty sauce. Such as tahini sauce. But I've never tried tahini sauce, so I tried peanut butter which I combined with chili flakes.

Sweet spicy sauce

Yeah, just like a salad that has many different types of sauces to combine, so does this grilled eggplant dish. So you can say that the sauce I serve is one of my favorite sauces to serve grilled eggplant.

Because I like the taste of the final result of this recipe, I ventured to share it with you. So stay tuned!

GRILLED EGGPLANT

There are many ways to grill eggplants. You can use fire to hit the eggplant directly, but you can also use a grill pan.

Here I used a grill pan. I grill the eggplant while cooking other ingredients for other side dishes.

This is the process when I grill the eggplant. I grease the eggplant with a little oil before grilling. And then I prepared to make a sweet spicy sauce.

It's natural when the eggplant skin becomes charred. Because we will not eat the skin. If processed without using a grill pan, the eggplant skin will be more scorched.

SWEET SPICY SAUCE

The ingredients that need to be prepared in this version of the recipe are as follows:

7017DC60-EDC0-4DBC-A0D0-9F037E49892B.jpeg

  • 2 tablespoons peanut butter
  • 2 tablespoons chili flakes or more according to your taste about spiciness level.
  • 50 ml of coconut milk, reserving about 4 tablespoons for serving.

How to make the sauce, we just need to mix all ingredients in a bowl. Then mix them together well. Because the consistency of peanut butter is thick, so I use the help of a whisker. That makes all the ingredients can be mixed evenly.

SERVING GRILLED EGGPLANT

First, place a grilled eggplant on a serving plate. Then take a fork. Then split the grilled eggplant with a fork.

Make sure the inside of the eggplant is visible because this is where the inside will be eaten.

Then take a few tablespoons of coconut milk that has been slightly left. Pour over the grilled eggplant slowly and evenly.

Finish by pouring a few tablespoons of coconut milk, and adding the sauce. Also giving the final touch with sesame seeds and celery.

Oooh, looks soooo perfect! Is not it? I really like the final appearance of the grilled eggplant. But of course, it doesn't end there. I also like the mix of flavors.

Well, you guys don't have to make the same sauce’s recipe as me. Because the taste will be weird if you don't like the kind of sauce.

The final taste of the grilled eggplant menu will depend on the sauce that is comfortable on your tongue. So I highly recommend you make your own version of the dressing just as you would make your own version of the salad dressing.

So, what kind of sauce do you like that you usually use to serve salads? Whatever type it is, I'm sure it's the best and most comfortable for your tongue. But don't forget to try new things only if you are ready and brave for it. Have a great day!

That eggplant looks delicious with the peanut sauce. The addition of the coconut milk adds an extra smoothness and flavor. A different way to eat grilled eggplant.

In some references they use tahini sauce. Because I have no tahini sauce, then I use peanut sauce. I think they have similar taste. Maybe you prefer tahini sauce :)

Tortang Talong (grilled and fried eggplant) is my favorite recipe of the eggplant however, it takes time because it requires grilling process then peel removal before dipping it in flour with egg. The final process would be frying. Tortang talong dipped in a sauce (soy sauce with lemon juice tomatoe and onion) is definitely scrumptious.

yeah, the removal process needed some energy but I love this one. but my fav is served with really spicy chili paste :)
