A TASTE OF HAUSA CULTURE, FOOD, FASHION, AND MORE

I believe every state is different, when I was in Aba, I thought it was more expensive than Kaduna because when I was little I remember Kaduna being cheaper. Where you could buy ingredients for soup for 500 and other things you'd love but time change.

The country has changed, and economy is different now, you have to adapt and plan accordingly. When I returned to Kaduna after a very long time, I expected things to people cheap, like they used to be. But prices were surprisingly high, I was surprised and turn to my sister she told me "Better carry your Aba mindset and bring down because Kaduna don change" I was like, I thought Kaduna was still cheaper, but she told me, "Kaduna isn't what you think it is anymore," things here are now costly, I was like, "wow".

In Kaduna, my sister took me to "Rity restaurant." surprisedly, she told me they're selling food affordably, starting from 600 naria , depending on how much you order. And compare to other restaurants in Kaduna and I love it. At least I saw somewhere affordably.

I believe Kaduna is more developed than Aba, especially with its roads and overall organization. Although, some areas have bad roads, Aba's infrastructure is different. They're just starting to developed their roads, thanks to the new governor.

When I bought something in a shop and asked for change, they gave me damaged money. I told them this money they gave me is not good, my sister told me " That's kaduna for you, they'll accept damaged money without checking." I told her "In Aba, they'll reject it and immediately ask me to change it."

I missed Kaduna a lot. I discovered they're some northern food that I can eat here in Kaduna. Aba has street food, but not as much as kaduna. Their street food is irresistible, that you'll wonder when to check it out and try it all. And they mostly sell at night, with plenty of options to give a try.

NORTHERN STREET FOOD I MISS A LOT WHEN I WAS STILL IN ABA

  • Awara, traditionally known as Nigerian tofu and made from soybeans, is a local snack mostly eaten by Hausa people in the north. we went to repair our television and saw a woman selling Awara by the road side. Sometimes the name confuses me and I enjoyed eating it.

  • Kunun Gyada (HAUSA PAP) is a Hausa- fulani gruel made with raw groundnut and local rice. It's one of my favorite northern dishes, and I prefer it over regular pap. After taking pap, once you ease yourself, you might wake up in the mid- night because of hunger 😂 but kunun Gyada can hold you till morning, even if you wake up, you wouldn't feel that hungry.

  • Gurasa is another street food I enjoy the most. It's a local bread from northern Nigeria. It's been ages since I last had it, and when I spotted it, I grabbed the opportunity. I told my sister, we bought it and I ended up eating both mine and hers. It's not my fault, blame it on my love for food.😂
Though northern people are in Aba but it's rare to find all the snacks I mentioned, the only thing you'll see is suya which is everywhere.

  • I notice that Hausa women dress Modestly, rarely revealing their bodies, which I admire and it shows dignity. But in Aba, some girls dress revealingly, almost like walking naked on the road, without seeming to care. While Some call it fashion, but I don't think it's fashion, that's madness. Fashion is not about dressing naked but about how you present yourself with simplicity, boldness, confidence and elegance, while holding one's pride and value as a woman. That's fashion.

I remember when I was graduating from Zaria I made sure I used all the bad money I had with me. Kano and Kaduna people don't reject bad money

This gurasa is entering my eyes, it's been awhile since I ate it
