Living Off-grid for Three Days

There is so much more than our modern life, like the good old days fetching water from the springs and cooking with firewood.

We used to wait for our summer vacation to have lots of time to treck to the woods or to splash on the rivers and seas.

We tried staying at my parents' hut cabin and spent most the quarantine days there.

With my little sister, me, and my mother. Sometimes my older sister, my brother, and our Father comes along.

We had two double-deck bed inside the hut and a wooden floor but before the bed was done we just slept on the floor.

The nights are usually loud with much insect noise, frogs, and noctural animals heard till daylight but they said the sound they produce was a white noise and a healthy one so we don't really mind.

Aside from the insects, the thing that you should prepare when you are in the woods or the mountains is the sudden drop of the temperature in the middle of the night.

The view of the dusk outside the hut.

In all our stay, the sudden cold usually occurs after midnight till early morning, the thermometer usually reads 23°C the lowest inside the hut--I don't really know outside but maybe it's 21°C because the thermometer was placed on the warmest part of the room.

The coldness is really so intense, I remember having two jackets and two blankets yet the coldness would still seep to your bones.

In the morning when the sunrays hits the ground you'll find out that the coldness of the night produces a lot of dewdrops which filled the entire hills with dew.

It is also at this time that we fetch water from the spring and boil the water up for a warm cup of coffee that would somehow ease the coldness.

We used to eat breakfast at 8am, the coffee and the bread was merely an early morning snack.

In the mornings we'll tend our gardens around the hut since we have a separate work from each other.

At noon when the sun is so hot we'll sleep on the hut or we'll gather firewood.

I could only wish to live off-grid though, to have a separate cabin hut from my parents, my parents' hut is almost complete in a way.

It only needs a proper fireplace and a functional restroom.

Yes, we had installed a solar power but it still requires an inverter so we could charge our phones.

To have a permanent off-grid house is one of my dreams now, to tend an organic garden, and to be self-sustaining in a way but it will take a year or so to happen.

Yet, I'll still dream for that life. Even if I'll fetch water and use firewood everyday, I'll live the old way still--one day.

One of these days I'll live there and would only visit our house in the barrio a few times each month but before that I can only dream about that life and live each day on the plains with enthusiasm for that life ahead of me.

Dreaming to live there one day and to spend my summer vacations on the seas.

Why can there be no network if it is far from the city. However, I think the place is very beautiful and very comfortable and has a cool air it seems.
