Roasted Duck and Pork Rice combo

A duck rice stall is less common when compared to the many chicken rice stalls there are in the city. Since it's a special day, I thought of going for the extraordinary by getting myself a combination of roasted duck and roasted pork for my lunch today. Both dishes are equally good and have similarities when it comes to texture, the flavor of each dish tastes differently but are equally good.

About the pork, there are two versions that I can choose from, the roasted version and the char siew version. The roasted duck is what I can say as “the dish that I seldom choose". It's different from chicken in terms of flavor and the texture of the meat. A duck meat is like a cross between pork and chicken.

This is probably one of the best plating of Duck and pork rice that I got from a regular hawker food center. It costs me S$7.00 but it's worth it considering the taste and quantity of the meat that was served to me.


The pork skin is crunchy and the meat is tender. The duck skin is already chewy and so is the meat. I reached the place around 2:00 PM and so it is already empty. I had the place by myself.

The complimentary soup is so good. It has radish in it that's why I feel that it's healthy enough to drink.

What's surprising is that the serving is a lot. This plateful of meat should cost around S$10.00 in my opinion. Could it be that they gave me a lot of serving because there are no customers anymore and the owner just wants to finish all his stocks? Maybe :)

Here's my opinion about this dish, I would rather go for the pork and chicken rice combination because it's something that I'm used to eating. The roasted duck is a bit chewy and the meat has toughness to it when compared to the chicken. The flavor of the duck is superior compared to the chicken but the texture is something that I mind while eating this combination of dishes. The pork itself is acceptable to chew while the duck requires me to work on chewing.

I would still try this dish at other food centers or restaurants that I could afford in the future. My thoughts might change about this dish :)
