Indonesian Chili Chicken is in the house!

Hello, friends especially foodies!

Recently when my boyfriend and i were visiting blok M area, we were in one of the modest shopping center there that also a center of culinary. I had interest in one of the restaurant that sold Indonesian Fried Chicken with Authentic Chili Paste because it was so popular that even not in dining time, it was 3pm and so crowded.

The name of the popular modest restaurant is Ayam Sambel Melawai, or if it is translated, Melawai Chili Chicken. Melawai is the name of the street where it is located, while Chili Chicken is the name of their authentic dish.

The concept of the restaurant is semi outdoor, so you could feel the air from outside. And it was so crowded that when i wanted to order, i asked my boyfriend to look for the table for us. The dining area was simple and also modest. No design and decoration, they even shared the area with another tenant.

The restaurant is so simple and modest. They had a table to prepare the chicken like putting the lettuce, chili paste, et cetera. Behind you could see how they prepare the food.

The menu that they had were
• Spices chili paste fried chicken
• Tempong chili paste fried chicken
• Chili flakes fried chicken
• Chili salt pepper fried chicken
• Gendot chili chicken
• Peanut poured roasted chicken
• Roasted chicken with 4 choices of chili paste
• Garlic chicken
• Fried catfish with 4 choices of chili paste
• Melawai chili paste fried Indomie
• Omelette
• Fried skin
• Salt pepper fried skin
• Chili flake fried skin
• Fried intestine
• Skin satay
• Fried tempeh/tofu
• Roasted tempeh/tofu
• Original jukut
• Crispy jukut
• Chili flake/chili salt jukut
• Crispy fried cabbage
They had 3 kind of rice
• White rice
• Uduk rice – unfortunely, sold out
• Cobek rice
Two kind of veggie they had were garlic pakcoy and balacan water spinach.
They also had some add on chili paste (sambal) like chili flake, peanut chili paste, tempong chili paste, spices chili paste and salt pepper chili paste.
For drink, they had mineral water, iced/hot orange squeezed, iced/hot lemon tea, iced/hot sweet/plain tea, and badak sarsaparilla.

After had ordered and paid, I straightly went to our table (luckily my boyfriend got a table). Looked around, still crowded. The type of the restaurant is eat and go, not kind of you could do relax and do chit chat.

Not a long time, the food we ordered arrived. Here what we ordered

I only ordered a portion of rice because we already had had our lunch before the Sunday churching, and this time we only will a bit too much for tea time, LOL.

Now let me tell you how were the taste and flavour…

CHILI CHICKEN

One had chili flake while the others had spices chili paste…
From the fried chicken, it had soft juicy texture with tasty savory flavour. The chili flake had tasty spicy savory flavour with dry texture, well it was unique and we had never tasted it before. And guess what? It became one of the best chili we ever had. Next, for the spices chili paste, it was just ordinary, with spicy, savory and a bit sweet. Well the winner in our heart, is the chili flake of course! You should try it!

JUKUT ORIGINAL

Well you would never find this kind of veggie, in other restaurants. Looked messy but it tasted so good. The texture was crunchy and crispy but not hard. It had tasty savory flavour and we both loved it!

Anyway, for the drink, we had iced lemon tea and iced tea. For iced tea we could ask for free refill. The lemon tea was just ordinary.

Overall, i love their chicken, tempted by the garlic chicken, of course we would come back there again to try!
