This is a Frontenis ball and I love to play. For that you have to go to a court, and once you get there, the hours melt away with frightening ease, because the sport grabs you. Once you begin to understand it and get the hang of it from your body -that means, at least you put a double wall, go, or rectify the opponent's spine two or three times- then you become addicted. Truly few women play. And if this reality has changed, I have missed it because I have been away from that circuit since shortly before COVID-19 broke out.

I have my full equipment and I am lucky, I admit it. My two super light and powerful Prince racquets, the ones I always dreamed of having, and some balls that I have bought or have been given as gifts. I even have a case to keep all my stuff in when I go to play, and I carry everything in it: my wallet, a towel, my ankle, knee and wrist pads, sunscreen, a pair of flip-flops, water, a snack, a peanut bar... shall I go on?

Esta es una pelota de Frontenis y a mí me encanta jugar. Para eso hay que ir a una cancha, y luego que entras ahí, las horas se diluyen con una facilidad que asusta, porque ese deporte te atrapa. Una vez que comienzas a entenderlo y a cogerle la vuelta desde tu cuerpo -esto quiere decir, que al menos pones un doble pared, vaya, o le rectificas la columna al contrario dos o tres veces- pues ya te conviertes en un adicto. Verdaderamente pocas mujeres juegan. Y si ya esta realidad cambió, me lo he perdido porque estoy alejada de ese circuito desde poco antes que se desatara la COVID-19.

Tengo mi equipamiento completo y soy afortunada, lo reconozco. Mis dos raquetas Prince súper ligeras y poderosas, las que siempre soñé tener, y algunas pelotas que he comprado o me han regalado. Poseo hasta una funda para guardar todas mis cosas cuando voy a jugar, y llevo de todo ahí: la cartera, una toallita, las tobilleras, las rodilleras, las muñequeras, protector solar, un par de chancletas, agua, un bocadito, una barrita de maní… ¿sigo?

Many were lost and they were always expensive, but we didn't care. Sweating, laughing, hanging out and playing sports was the coolest thing in the world.

Now that I think about it, most of my friends, with whom I used to play on the courts, left the country. I would have to go alone or I would have to call on Havana's hivers. Certainly this pandemic and the economic situation that followed, radically changed our lives and wreaked havoc in love, friendship and even family relationships.

Then Chanel and I play with the ball. It's very funny to watch her run and throw it up, she goes crazy. It's, as I said at the beginning, a "relajo" relaxing. Or was it the other way around?

Se perdieron muchas y siempre eran caras, pero no nos importaba. Sudar, reír, pasar el rato haciéndonos las deportistas era lo más genial del mundo mundial.

Ahora que lo pienso, la mayoría de mis amigas, con las que jugaba en las canchas, se fueron del país. Me tocaría ir sola o lanzar una convocatoria entre hivers habaneros. Ciertamente esta pandemia y la situación económica que se desencadenó después, cambió radicalmente nuestras vidas y causó estragos en las relaciones amorosas, de amistad y hasta las de familia.

Entonces Chanel y yo jugamos con la pelota. Es muy graciosa verla correr y tirarla hacia arriba, se vuelve como loca. Es, como decía al principio, un relajo, relajante. ¿O era al revés?

Mi sobrino… ¿recuerdan a mi sobrino? el del post de la Mac, ese… pues vino y se quedó unos días con su tía predilecta. Ya no es aquel pequeño pintor de manzanas de Apple, ahora es un verdadero Geek. Y nada, que ahí lo tienen jugando con Chanel, en el relajante relajo.
