I agree with the humanistic core of your statement: ordinary people should not suffer or die because of the ambitions of politicians. This desire for peace is universal.
However, I must disagree with the comment's oversimplification when applied to the Russian-Ukrainian war for three critical reasons:
Aggressor vs. Victim. This is an unprovoked war of aggression (Russia) against a nation fighting for survival (Ukraine). It is not a conflict "between the leaders" on both sides.
War Crimes and Initiative. Russian soldiers are not just following orders. There is extensive evidence that they are voluntarily committing atrocities, including torturing, raping, and murdering civilians, as well as widespread looting.
Societal Support. These actions are often supported or condoned by a significant part of the Russian civilian population.
