Ramadan Bazaar Tour in Bukit Beruntung

Hello everyone! Today I'm going to share some pictures I took a few days ago when I visited the Ramadan Bazaar in Bukit Beruntung. It is a town located in Selangor, Malaysia.
Currently it is the month if Ramadan which is the fasting month for Muslims before they celebrate Hair Raya Aidilfitri (Eid-al-Fitr). The fasting is done for the entire Ramadan month. They start fasting from dawn to sunset around 7.30pm. The timing changes slightly every day depending on the sunset.
In the evenings of this month, there will be massive bazaars almost everywhere with lots of yummy food and drinks sold. Many people buy them to eat when they break their fast. I'm a non-Muslim but every year I still love to check the Ramadan Bazaar out so I can get some freshly made snacks. That's the beauty of it as everyone joins the bazaar because most Malaysians are foodies like me and it is also fun to walk around and check out different types of food.

This is the town of Bukit Beruntung. It leans more towards a small town unlike where I am now in Kuala Lumpur where it is always bustling even at night.

Can you see the sun in the sky? That means we will be sunburned today. Just kidding, but it does get very warm in this place and one of my aunties who lives here always has the air-conditioner turned on due to the weather. By the way, if you look closely there's a bird flying near the sun and I managed to capture it too.

This is the entrance of the bazaar. So many people were coming and going. It was getting crowded but my family and I were determined to buy something to eat there. Another of my aunties also has a salon there and it's in walking distance for her so we were meeting her there.

Check this drink shop with a ton of ice cubes to keep the drinks cool. People do buy because the weather is hot. I just thought the amount of ice used is fascinating.

This is a stall with different types of chicken rice. Some are called Kentucky chicken rice while some are spiced chicken rice. Other types are tomato rice and rain rice (nasi hujan). The rain rice is also known as wedding rice (nasi kahwin). This particular type of rice is made with basmati rice and they will turn out colourful like green, red and yellow rice mixed. I have tried them before and they taste almost like regular ghee rice but a little sweet and have raisins in them. As they are selling different types of rice here, they're also promoting their main business which is catering for events.

Many of the sellers were also cooking on the spot and constantly making snacks and fried chicken as they were being bought by customers. This vendor probably also supplies for events and hence she has shared her number for orders.

The above is a stall selling fried oyster mushrooms. Seems like they deep fry the mushrooms until they are crispy. I didn't even know such a snack exists until I saw the words printed in massive font on the banner.

Here are more fried chicken. One of them is ayam gunting (scissored chicken) which is a trending snack now. It is just chicken coated with flour, eggs and some chilli and seasonings, deep fried and then cut into smaller pieces. They also seem to have other items but the one I can spot is squids.

The vendor above is selling corn dog. It is a famous Korean street food. According to the menu banner, there are three types that we can choose, either the original which I guess sausage without any add on, potato or mozzarella cheese. It is probably why the last two cost more than the original. They also sell spiral potato tornado which are fried potatoes on a skewer.

This drink is a catchy brand called 'Air Balang Budak Gemok' which translates to 'Fat Boy Jar Drink'. I have seen it last year too when I visited here. They sell many varieties of iced drinks with ice-cream on top. If we order one, they will top the drink with some of the ice-cream too like a float. I have seen them making this when they were setting up the stall. They were adding 5 tubs of ice-cream to each jar. They have so many flavours including coffee, tea, durian and katira which is a drink specially served during the Ramadan month due to its cooling properties.

More chicken here. They are selling different types of skewed chicken and fried as well. There are also crispy giant squids fried after being coated with batter and seasonings. They claimed that they have removed the skin of the chicken and that they are cholesterol free.

This is a vendor selling laksa Penang. It is a classic Malaysian noodles soup dish made with rice noodles, tamarind, mackerel, torch ginger and some condiments and leaves that give the tangy, aromatic fragrance. They have packed the items in little bags and when we order they will just pack the soup separately so we can mix them when we are going to consume at home.

These are lemang and rendang which are the traditional dishes cooked during the Hair Raya festival. This is the only stall sending these here.

These are different types of keropok lekor which is a common fish cracker here. This vendor seems to have been innovative and made different varieties of them including with cheese which I'm seeing for the first time ever. We usually just use a dipping sauce.

These are for the people looking to buy their dinner here. They offer full meals of all the usual fried main course which we call as 'goreng-goreng' here. There were friend rice, fried noodles, kuay teow and more.

Here are some meatballs and wedges. I didn't notice the wedges earlier while filming or else I would have gotten them because I love wedges. By the way, this little boy is not winking. He is probably squinting his eyes because the sun was so bright and heaty.

This is another full meal available and it is called beriyani kahwin which means wedding biryani rice. They have both chicken and mutton types.

I came across this large stall with tons of traditional local pastries and we got a few packs of them. They were also selling nasi lemak but we didn't buy them because my aunty intervened and suggested we should try them in her favourite stall which is a different stall so we ended up buying there.

This is a long stall selling many refreshing drinks. There were chocolate, milo, banana milk, katira, yam, sirap, corn and herbal soda flavoured drinks. There were also fruity drinks such as watermelon and tangerine mixed drinks in different fruits like apple, lime and lemon. They have added real fruit slices too. All the drinks were topped with tubs of ice-cream on top so we will be getting a drink like float. The sellers were nice and they even posed for me as I was filming them.

The above is ayam golek which is roasted spiced chicken. The chicken are rolled and grilled while the marinade caramalizes on the skin as it keeps turning. After it is fully grilled, we will have a juice chicken with all the wonderful flavours of spices.

This is Mr. Churros which is a well known food chain in Malaysia and they specialize in churros. They have several branches in Malaysia and provide catering services of churros for events. I noticed they were making fresh churros here at the their booth. It is quite a simple pastry with Spanish origin where it is made of choux piped into hot oil and coated in cinnamon and sugar. They put up a warning here saying 'Beware of hot oil'.

This is a juice station where they were blending fruits with a large blender right there to quench people's thirst in the hot weather. Some were in packets and I guess we can also drink it there itself with paper cups.

This is the vendor my aunty suggested. They were selling both nasi lemak and multiple evening snacks that are usually steamed. We bought 7 packs of nasi lemak for our family and my aunties and uncle as well. Then we also got some pastries for evening snacks. The price was reasonable. By the way the seller seemed to have Indonesian ancestry but married and settled here. She has been here for a long time and even picked up some Tamil language and spoke to us in a friendly way.

I just want to say that while these items are all yummy, we should be picky and not splurge as many of them are deep fried and it's best to prioritize health. It's ok to have them but not every single day. The drinks too can be sugary and are not recommend often.
Also we actually had to rush back to the car sooner than we intended because my mother suddenly got a splitting headache due to the heat. I guess she was at the verge of getting a heatstroke. So I suggest bringing a little handheld fan that we can use to keep our face and neck cool. Perhaps an umbrella too. Even I felt my eyes burning a little as I could not stand the weather because it was quite intense compared to my area.
Thank you for dropping by and I wish you have a wonderful day ahead!
Very interesting drinks that's worth a try looks thirst quenching the food also looks tasty, it's lunch time here I feel thirsty and hungry
The drinks always too sweet
