Today I tried Shawarma for the first time (2022.10.15)

Have you ever heard about Shawarma? Do not worry. Me neither so far. Today I walked in Szolnok, Hungary, and I noticed Hayla Shawarma, which is a Turkish restaurant.

I decided to try it. There were a little and a big Shawarma dish. I decided to order the little for the first time, because I did not know what it is like. I did not know anything about it. It was 1500 Hungarian Forint (HUF) (currently $3.49 USD) ($1 USD is curretly 430.37 HUF).

There were desks outside, and I sat down to eat there.

I opened the package, and it was a very pleasant surprise. It looked and tasted very similar to the Greek Gyros. Maybe this food is more spicy than the Gyros. At least this is how it felt for the first time. I like it very much.

Later, after I arrived home, I looked it up, and I realized that the Shawarma is popular street food in the middle east, originated from the Ottoman Empire.

I really enjoyed it very much. Especially its spicyness. Probably I will eat it in the future too.

Today we had a pleasant autumn/fall weather, so it was good to sit down outside. The temperature was around 21 °C in the afternoon. Currently (in the evening) (at 18:00 CEST) it is 18 °C, which is still pleasant. There are many fallen leaves in the city. Much more than what I saw the last time (a few days ago).

The sky was mostly cloudy in the afternoon, but there was no rain today.

I took these photos with my smartphone (Samsung Galaxy A12). I have not edited these photos.

Have a nice day and have a nice weekend.
All the best. Greetings and much love from Hungary.

The food looks delicious. I didn't try shawarma until a few years ago and instantly liked it. Gyros have been around here in America for decades but shawarma was introduced much later, maybe as more middle eastern people immigrated here. Enjoy your weekend!

I noticed this street food only today, but probably it is there since years. Shawarma is so similar to Gyros that I would not be able to tell that it is something else. Without mentioning its name, probably I would think that it is Gyros with a little bit more spicy ingredients.

I like it very much.

Have a nice day and have a nice weekend.
All the best. Greetings and much love from Hungary.

I am glad that you discovered shawarma and that you liked it. I am from the East and it is something common to eat Shawarma here indeed. I have done it lots of time and I also like it. You can find it in the streets or in the restaurants. It is a bit spicy the meat I guess - I am now vegetarian and I eat at times Vegetarian Shawarmas. Otherwise, you can choose from various types of sauces, spicy or not.

It looks very delicious I just saw it for the first time, you know I'm a village kid, in terms of price it's also not so cheap for the size of our pockets, Indonesians whose average income is only Around 10.00 USD

Nowadays I also live in a village. Currently I am living with my pension-like income, which is approximately $250 USD per month. Nowadays I live without having to pay rent, and this is how I can afford foods like this.

We used to make Shawarma in my home.
Shawarma is also popular in Pakistan as well.
It looks more like this here in Pakistan.

And yes, it's less than a dollar per shawarma here.

Wow. Compared to the current price (around $3.49 USD) in my country (in Hungary), that is actually cheap. Very affordable. I would eat it frequently with that price.

I feel that the Shawarma is more spicy than Gyros, but other than that its taste is very similar to Gyros. I ate Shawarma only once so far, but I ate Gyros many times. Both are very good. They are amongst my favorite foods.

That is good if you can make a homemade Shawarma. Probably it is cheaper too than buying it at the street foods.
