its just a term used for fish

this means preserving fish using a drying method.

To dry a fish is a method of food preservation that involves removing water from the fish by drying it,

This method reduces the growth of microorganisms in the fish.

 *Types or ways fishes can be dried*

by smoking or freezing,

The fish can be air dried,

Or sun dried,

Dried fishes helps retains the antioxidant and omega-3 benefits ,
This dried fish are mostly benefited for both animals and humans too , therefore they are healthy and widely available food for both people and dogs.

The drying of a fish helps in soo many occurrence of heart attacks ,
It helps keeps the body's circulation functioning well also and this is because it contains some special vitamins.

“sun drying”

This method includes placing the fish under sun and also allowing the sun heat the fish.
The direct sunlight dries up the fish over time and it helps preserves the fish too.

“Dehydration”.

This method includes the process of putting the fish in either a mirco oven or over heated hot plates ,
This helps to absorb the water moisture from the fish and fries up the fatty parts too.

These two methods of preserving fish are almost similar but with just a little differences.

The drying of the fish just simply involves removal of water content from the fish body.
This natural process are carried to help evaporate water from fish body.

Some advantages of dried fish:

The processed fish that gets dried through sun drying or dehydration is highly concentrated in helping to preserve the fish.

When water content reduces , there are some of the microbial activity that cannot run at high temperatures which also reduces , and this helps to limit micro organisms that can lead to the spoilage of the fish.

This method is Less expensive and comparatively simple to carry out too.

Drying fish remains the most stable method of helping to preserve at most ambient temperature.

Disadvantages of sun drying.

The major problem of sun drying of fish is that you can never know how efficient the quality of the fish will be after drying because the efficiency and quality of the dried fish remain at the mercy of nature.

If there are no process of generating sunlight it is hard to carry out such activities or sunlight drying of a fish
It can only be carried out when bright sunlight is available.

This issues also involve control of the amount of sunlight effecting the fish because it cant be controlled.

While sun drying,
possibility of contamination with dust, sand; infestation with insects, flies and so many other insects roaming around the dried fish and most times their eggs and larvae is high on the dried fish too.

Some few device that can be used in place of sun light includes.

  *Driers*

They are devices used to dry fish under controlled environment.
This includes ,
Cabinet drier,
Spray drier,
Solar tent drier etc.

The reasons of preserving this fishes are as a result of high amount of fishes that gets caught during the seasons and because they are huge and cannot be easily consumed or sold at once ,the need to help preserve them becomes very necessary too

The only issues in carrying out this method more often is just that most of the rural dry fish farmers need financial support ,
and also training them on basic knowledge of scientific drying process.

Most Government should create organisations that can take proper steps to train this farmers and as well support them with financial support, and also introduce means of monitoring them and properly.
