Food Poisoning

Would you eat this piece of cake?

Just 2 days prior I made a pretty good tasting cake with gooseberries. Not the usual choice which is why I had to add some pudding and some cream on the cake to neutralize the sourness. But that just sealed my fate. I should have known that milk products doesn't last very long when they stay outside, non refrigerated. But was 2 days pushing it? Yes, indeed it was! A day seems to be okay since I didn't get any problems, and 2 days to be honest seemed to be not pushing it too far. But I should have also considered that we are in summer. The kitchen even in the night probably stays at around 20°C. In hindsight it seems very obvious that I was going to have a bad time, but hindsight is always 20/20.

The Aftermath

It didn't take long before the first symptoms set in. I don't really want to go into the details to save you from the vivid imagery, but the good news was it only lasted for a day. I mean that day was not good and I got one of the worst limb pains that I can remember, but it was mostly one day. Of course it helps if there are friends and family around to help. I remember back when I was younger and living alone that I once came down with a really bad case of flu. And I was just laying in bed and there was nothing I could do. The headaches were so bad I couldn't even really walk; I couldn't even think about going outside to the pharmacy. Lessons learned: be prepared! Since then I always keep a good stash of medications nearby - just in case. Like that day. Although food poisoning isn't really something that many would be prepared for. Which reminds me to go the pharmacy today and get some better stuff. I only has paracetamol at home and I guess it helped a lot, but probably there is something for the stomach as well.

Conclusion

Gooseberry cake is delicious (considering it stays cooled). I'll probably not bake this cake in the immediate future since it just didn't sit very well with me... It's better to always refrigerate food even if one thinks that one can eat everything on the first day (because there is a good chance that you can't and then the second day could be dodgy). Food poisoning is definitely something one should avoid at all costs. So be careful out there in the rich world of cuisines.

Hello dear friend @tobetada
I am very sorry for the situation you had to go through, it is true, all the food we cook must be refrigerated so that it stays healthy, especially if it contains dairy products.
I appreciate that you have shared this bad experience, wishing that you are well at this time

Yes. Similarly to you earlier, I would also not think that it would do any harm.

I once came down with a really bad case of flu. And I was just laying in bed and there was nothing I could do.

A few years ago I experience something similar. I could hardly get out of the bed. But I do not think that it was from food poisoning. I do not know what was the cause. Maybe it was seasonal influenza. I have not experienced that before, nor after. Probably I have not experienced food poisoning so far. Or at least I do not know. I do not remember.

Either way, it is good that the pain lasted only one day in your case. I read that the effects of the food poisonings are mostly last a few days. Even without treatment. Sometimes it can last for one week. Or even for longer.

Have a nice day and have a nice weekend.
All the best. Greetings and much love from Hungary.

yes, I think it must have been influenza. These kinds of events can really make it very explicit that we are mortal beings. I wish you well too! :)

Food poisoning is just an awful experience! I guess two days without refrigerating something with dairy is just pushing it too far. That said, we keep the butter sitting out on the counter, and that's often for as much as 4-5 days.

Got food poisoning from bad sushi a few years ago and that is not anything I would want to experience again! Glad you're feeling better!

oh yeah... sushi can't be good if it was from the fish. I guess that's a restaurant to avoid in the future (if you didn't make it yourself). Thanks for stopping by!

This happens when a person eats something wrong or someone eats food that is not of good quality and due to which the person has to face problems for a couple of days.

Oh... food poisoning is disgusting... And all the food poisoning I've had is from dairy products, milk. Nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, high body temperature. The only thing that helped me was taking activated charcoal.

oh, I totally forgot about the charcoal... I bought it some years back, but totally forgot about it. Thank you for reminding me!
