Summer and health!

Though each season is equally essential for us now because of global warming we mostly feel summer, especially in Asian regions!

It's important to take care of our health during summer because we all need to go outside the house every day, and because of the high temperatures, our bodies dehydrate quickly!

This is the reason schools declared Summer vacation to keep children safe!
But how we can keep them and ourselves healthy during this season?

Foremost, we need to keep our body hydrated, and for that, we must consume more liquid!

It could be plain water, coconut water, lime juice and fermented drinks and foods!

India, especially in the southern part of India, is known for fermented food. Besides that, during summer in Assam, people keep themselves healthy by consuming Pakhala Bhat (fermented rice)!
In West Bengal (kolkata) or Bangladesh, we call it Panta Bhat!

However, Kanji is a North Indian probiotic drink!

  • It's good for gut health and enhances digestion!

  • It can be made with different vegetables, some people prepare it with cooked rice, but I enjoy consuming it with Vegetables, like beetroot, carrots and cucumbers!

Let me share you the recipe:-

Ingredients:-(serve for 1)
  • Beetroot:- 1 chopped or diced(as per your choice).
  • Carrot:- 1 chopped or diced!
  • Cucumber:- 1 chopped or diced!
  • Mustard powder:- 1 tbsp.
  • Pink salt:- 1 tsp.

  • Method:-

  • Take a glass jar, clean and peel the vegetables (beetroot and carrot). I didn't peel cucumber!

  • After that, transfer chopped vegetables into the jar and add lukewarm water to it!
    Next, add salt and mustard powder.
    Mixed well and keep it in a warm place in the room.

  • After 48 hours, open the jar and check if the vegetables have become soft, and you get a smell of tangy flavour; it means your kanji is ready!
    Add a bit of black salt before you drink it.

Isn't it easy? But believe me, you can prepare and consume this drink the entire year to keep your inner body healthy!

Remaining, vegetables which will left you can eat them as a pickle with other foods!
Never waste food; it's a bad habit!

Besides that, try to keep seasonal fruits in your regular diet.
It's always better to have fresh fruit instead of making juice with them because while making juice, we lose the fibre that fruits provide us, and fibre has its own benefits!
