After going through a severe flood crisis, the water has now completely receded. What remains are not just traces of the water level, but also the "kindness" shown in the form of abundant rice and dried food, especially "canned fish," which now fills my kitchen!

Today, I wanted to transform the monotony of donated food into a truly special family dinner. The challenge was that my husband doesn't really like spicy salads, while my little daughter loves canned fish. So, I came up with the idea of making "Stir-fried Basil with Canned Fish," but added a fun twist by plating it like bite-sized "sushi" to bring smiles to the children's faces.


Luckily, my backyard garden survived the flood. Both the chili peppers and basil are sprouting fragrant leaves, ready to be harvested and used in cooking. These are the simple joys that begin after the flood.
π΄ Recipe and Method: Canned Fish with Basil (Sushi-Style)





Ingredients
Canned fish: 3 cans
Basil leaves: 2 large handfuls (freshly picked from the plant for best aroma)
Fresh chilies and garlic, to taste (roughly pounded)
Seasoning
Vegetable oil, fish sauce, a little sugar, light soy sauce


Instructions
Preparation of Herbs: Wash the basil leaves and fresh chilies thoroughly and drain. Pound the chilies and garlic together.
SautΓ©ing the Aroma: Heat a little oil in a pan. Add the pounded chilies and garlic and sautΓ© until fragrant.

Add the main ingredient: Pour the canned fish into the pan and stir gently to prevent the fish from becoming mushy. Season with fish sauce, sugar, and soy sauce to taste.


Sushi Serving Instructions: Scoop cooked rice into bite-sized, oval balls and arrange them on a plate.
Then, spoon a piece of fish and basil sauce over each rice ball. Garnish with fresh basil leaves.
Finally: Add the basil leaves and stir-fry quickly until wilted, then immediately turn off the heat to preserve the basil's vibrant color and aroma.


This meal was so heartwarming. Seeing my daughter so excited about the "Basil Sushi" and enjoying it so much made me, a mother, forget all the exhaustion from the floods. It was a meal that transformed ordinary donated items into a truly warm and memorable experience.
