Warich dhaba - Just for a break and meal.

A long drive on Indian national highway always gives us plenty of experience. Especially when it comes to meals. There are multiple hotels and dhabas that cater the need of long distance traveler. These locations are strategically placed to serve long-distance drivers, providing services like lodging, parking, and vehicle maintenance directly along their routes. While hotels, offers convenience and easy access for motorists who need a place to stop for the night, refuel, or get a meal. Dhabas serve as essential, affordable, and convenient lifelines for long-distance travelers, especially truck drivers. These dhabas offer a unique combination of practical services and cultural familiarity that caters specifically to the needs of highway traffic. With the passage of time, some of these dhabas are transforming into a restaurant. Making travelers to miss the original touch of the dhabas. In my recent trip, we stopped at one such dhabas-cum restaurant for meals. And honestly, it was missing the vibes that we were expecting.

After driving for almost 5hrs. We started looking for a dhabas for meals and to take some rest. Dhabas were familiar stoppages area in the punjab area. But this time there is hardly any in our route (I will write a separate post detailing the nightmare of travelling in a lonely path). After looking for decent places we landed on Warich Dhaba.

I think ours was the only vehicle at that moment of time. Looking at the lights we were sure that the dhaba would be operational. It was 9 at night so all kinds of thoughts were crossing our mind. We entered the place expecting to be crowded or people. But to our surprise there none and we were the only one.

The place appears to be freshly renovated. The place is clean and simple there is nothing much decoration done. And the dark green curtains at one corner of the wall giving a nice vibes.

We went through the menu and ordered butter chapati and Daal makhni. In the meantime, i started capturing the items inside the dhabas or you can call it upgraded version of traditional dhabas. It does not have big space but enough to accommodate 30 people. The table were nice and so does the utensils keeps on it.

1000210104.jpg

The staff were done with our order. They start bringing up the plates to eat and onion and pickles. A common thing at most of the dhabas. The onion were dipped in circa juices to give a tangy taste. The pickle is just another go to item at every dhabas. They were served even if you dont ask for it.

I was really surprised to see their earing plate. Generally it used to be a steel utensils. But here the plate is of plate. It resembles like the lid of a paint container. If you remove the life it will exactly appears like this.

1000210102.jpg

As they're were no other customers, they were quick to bring our food. The Daal makhni in a steel tub and the chapati in a basket..

1000216848.jpg

The food was not as per our expectation. It was not cooked properly and neither had the taste that we were looking for. But being hungry since long, we ate whatever we can.

1000210106.jpg

We were very hungry still we only ate a chapati. We were quick to complain the same to the person sitting the the collection table. He acknowledged our concern and promise to fix it. I am not sure when, or may be if ever we go there. But for a nice gesture they offered us mouth freshener and jaggery as sweet.

1000210113.jpg

It was not s good experience with the food but still we keep the place in our memory for the story book. I snapped the dhaba again just to remind us back not to visit the place again.

In good faith - Peace!!

I love pickled onions. That bread looks pretty fantastic too. Is there only one main highway that travels through India or is that just what they call it?

There are many....national highway that connects different city. ...some have loads of traffic while some were too deserted...but traveling in these roads is always an adventure.
