"Colonnata: Discovering the Village Famous for Lardo di Colonnata"
Hello dearest friends,
Yesterday, unfortunately, due to work, I didn't have time to share the usual article here. But this time today, I've carved out half an hour to share with you this small village that I visited a few months ago because it's very characteristic. Here, a very important food product is produced, not only for Tuscany but also for all of Italy and, moreover, I think it's quite famous abroad.
I'm talking about the town of Colonnata, a beautiful village located on the slopes of the Apuan Alps, about eight kilometers from the more famous Carrara. In fact, this beautiful village is in the Massa Carrara province, as you can see from the photos, closely connected to the numerous marble quarries in the area.
For me, it was the first time I discovered this village. I've already been here several times, and let's say that apart from the central part of the village with the beautiful square you can see in my photos, there are no other monuments or other interesting tourist spots in the village.
Let's say that this place has become more famous for this salami, which is Lardo di Colonnata, a product with protected geographical indication. It's a salami that I've never particularly liked, although it has a dedicated and fresh flavor but a rather high calorie content.
Most of the people I found in this village come here to buy this salami, or most pass through here because they may have gone to visit some of the marble quarries in Carrara. An experience that I would like to have later on because I've always been very curious to understand how the processing of this important product that is exported worldwide works.
Probably, compared to other villages I've shared here and visited, as I mentioned, probably being a slightly more modern village, probably built after World War II, it doesn't have the historical charm of other villages I've shared here. In fact, it's not a place that I'm crazy about, but I wanted to share it here because perhaps those who love this food product can definitely take home a quality product.
We have to understand that more than anything, this place has always been inhabited over time, and even today, it's still quite populated because there is this connection with the quarries nearby that can still provide jobs for a part of the people who live here.
I hope you found my photos interesting that I've shared here. I hope that maybe one day you can visit this place. As usual, I wish you all a good day and send many kisses.
