RE: Chit Chat Friday - Colours from my garden

You are viewing a single comment's thread:

The pansies will keep flowering if you snip off the flowers that have faded. I agree it's a glorious time of year in the garden. The main colour is from my geraniums, the lavender is just coming into bloom and I'm waiting on the lilies.

I've been harvesting salad leaves and yesterday I noticed that I seem to have some free courgette plants growing. I'm not sure where the seeds came from but I'm going to move them to a better spot with more space. I've had loads of strawberries this year, there seems to be a bowlful ripe and ready to eat every evening.

Thanks for the pansy tip that's great news!! I didn't know be that, I thought they only bloom once, gonna snip them off now, they're so pretty to bloom just once.

I got some salad leaves growing, they should be ready for harvesting next week, and I have some watercress that are coming along nicely as well. Those I have to snip off the flower as soon as I see them.

I haven't grown up too many flowers, mainly produce I can eat, trying to get more practical with my efforts. Hope it pays off

It's called deadheading and you can try it with many plants, roses in particular respond well. It's very satisfying if you've had a frustrating day to go out snipping in the garden!

Your garden is coming along, this is only the second year, I think? It takes a while to get established. My garden is the opposite ... a constant battle to keep things in order 😂

I've heard of deadheading, just don't know which plants and when, some is immediately after flowering, some before frost, some after frost, some in spring. It's like going back to school again!!

Sniping to relieve stress is definitely one big advantage of the garden, it so satisfying. I'm looking for strawberry runners to snip now, and pinching tomato suckers, feel like a hawk every day!

Yes, it's the second year here now. Just need to sort out my lawn. We've got the builders to returfed twice but it's impossible for the grass to grow because they dumped so much crap when they built the house. Going to try sort it out once and for all next month. If that works I'll be a happy bunny next year

Yes, that's often a challenge! Hope you get it sorted out.
