We have a cat with similar habits. She'll act all nice and purry and snuggly and then haul off and either bite or scratch. I really don't like her very much, yet she insists on hanging out on my bed if I am reading there. I boot her out of the room at night, lest she decide to walk on me in the wee hours.

His Majesty is never really cuddly, He will allow, even ask me to pet, scratch or rub Him certain times, but mostly not.
I would love it if He would sleep CLOSER to me while He is on my bed, but He eventually grows tired of me trying to reach him and will get down, for a long time He would stay on the floor next to my bed so I had to be wary of stepping on Him, but He has now developed the habit of sleeping UNDER my bed, reaching out to "tag" me as I get up or walk past.
