Day 12: Sandwich
Good morning Hive!
It's day 12 of the not-so-ordinary ordinary items challenge, and I'm getting hungry. Thought it would be a perfect day to talk a little bit about how much I like good sandwiches. Ha, who doesn't like sandwiches, right? Let's see if we can find something out of the ordinary when we talk about some bread.
Breakfast
When I think about bread, the first thing that pops up is breakfast. Stuff I usually skip because I'm either waking up much later, or I am already in work mode, which means everything else is a waste of time. That's not entirely true, but it does can feel like that. Most of us say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. For me, that's a glass of water or a piece of fruit. But rarely do I choose the second option. I love drinking a glass of cold water to start the day.
Once it's around 11:30 AM - 12:00 PM, I'm starting to get hungry. It's not that I (or @lackofcolor) always make a fancy sandwich, but if we have the time for it, we certainly will!
Quality time
Since I'm pretty much of a loner, a work-a-holic, and a perfectionist, once I'm on a mission, I'm on a mission far far far away from people around me. This is something I struggle with a lot. To make time to spend with my partner in crime @lackofcolor. I think I got a lot better because I started to realize that quality time is important. When I was alone, I honestly just neglect myself. I forget to eat. Don't want to sound a bit of smoochie, but ever since Lackofcolor came into my life, she took care of me, stuff that I should've taken care of myself. Once I got back on my feet, and when we started to live together, eating together is always a great time.
Nothing beats a happy Lackofcolor, looking a bit surprised to see whatever sandwich I've built for her and myself. Now, due to her illness, this isn't much of the case anymore, but we're slowly getting back to it. Creating fancy-pancy sandwiches like the one below.
Making our bread
Read that again. Because do we? Do we make our own bread? I for one, don't know how to make bread from scratch. I tried this once, it smelled delicious, but it tasted like crap. It makes you think how spoiled we are becoming. We go to the grocery store, and we pay a good amount of money for a loaf of bread. Now, don't get me wrong, but 10 years ago, the bread tasted "so much better", like with a lot of food.
Greed is what makes us all suffer. The greed of big companies that are always looking to make more profit. This isn't a problem until these companies start to min/max their output and input. A little bit less of this, and a small increase in price, no one will notice, right?, and this goes on and on and on. Usually, if you see a "bonus" or "deal" in the supermarket, they usually prepare for putting less in the bag, while pumping the price. But since there is less in a package, you will still think you pay less; because you pay less, but not for the amount.
I'm getting a bit side-tracked there, but the point is; making our own bread isn't something we learn anymore. We're too focused on watching what bitch slept with what fuckboy on an island. Excuse the language. This simply shows how much we're turning into zombies. I'm lucky, @lackofcolor sometimes makes our bread or ciabattas. A trait that I really find valuable. I should try to make it myself as well.

The creative process
I had the idea to take a photograph of a stuffed sandwich. While I was writing a story about an object, Lackofcolor was making us sandwiches. I had no idea what exactly she was going to make, but when she was done, it smelled delicious. I grabbed a backdrop, placed a piece of a baking sheet, and put the sandwiches on top of it. I turned on my studio lights that were still in the living room and took 2 or 3 shots. Done. There wasn't much of a creative process other than to quickly photograph these bad boys in a few seconds. The sandwiches spoke for themself.

About the challenge
Photograph and write a little bit about 30 ordinary items that I used a lot in 2022. You can read more about the challenge, and join yourself here. This challenge is just a little experiment.
Do you know how to make bread?
I'm not entirely sure, but I think I have asked this question before. I think this is a lost trait, and I'm grateful for @lackofcolor making (and attempting) to make our own bread. I wish I could do it, I probably could if I tried a few times. I just have to make time for it, but who knows; maybe I'll start doing this when I have a little bit more time, or find some inspiration.
This might have become a bit of a "darker" themed post, but that's just how I feel. I hope to see some people in the comment section that tell me they make their own bread, thick or thin.
These sandwiches with some fresh eggs on top of it were awesome!
Cheers,
Ruben
That sandwich looks eggcellent!
It does look neggs-level, right!? Lackofcolor made it. The deliciousneggs of it was drooping off of it.
I almost want to begg for a bite!
Eggsuze me, we don't begg here! No need to beg :D

Eggstraordinary in the Not so Ordinary... Challenge
YUMM bro!!!
Making your bread is like foreplay before the ultimate foodgasm. I just love the smell of freshly baked ones.
Oh man, you make your own bread?! Show us what you got homie!
I would highly recommend making your own bread, so worth it. It's like photograph, there's a lot of science and technique behind it, but it's also an art. I can't say I'm there yet, but have definitely seen improvements and lots of satisfaction
Ohhh I can already smell the bread. @lackofcolor is making her own starter dough (or something like that), it smells so good! I bet! Sometimes when I see these French pastries guys rolling huge fluffy smooth dough, I'm like; wtf, how do they even do that.
You did really good job this time with the food photography, you nailed really good the colors and the edition man. This challenge is bringing out the best of your skillz
Thank you Malos, I appreciate that! I'm having lots of fun doing this challenge, and I really could use a kick to get a bit more back into photography.
Looks delish!
Thank you sir! I'll make sure the compliment reaches the chef.
Sandwiches are a way of life. Glad you felt compelled to write on them. I wrote about a weekend in New York, and thanks to those crazy cats, I got the driest turkey breast sandwich I’ve ever had. Chunks of the breast, with no sauce or nothin’. Despicable, but the pastrami one I tasted made up for it.
This challenge has given me thoughts about a few interesting items- which I hope to uncover more about who I am. This glass table, for example, we only have one of since I broke the other in my antics…
Hungry for a sammie now, though.
Dry turkey? How is that even possible? Where is the love in cooking if your turkey taste dry.
Oh yeah, this challenge is all about uncovering mundane things in our lives. There is no wrong. And every thought is another thought towards more awareness.
I'd love to try @lackofcolor's sandwich anytime. It's 2 AM here in Havana and I'm hungry. As always your post is delicious. Tell @lackofcolor to lighten up and do some posts on culinary arts.... And learn how to make your bread.
My regards to her.
Ooehh, she used to do some when she had more energy. I'll be more than happy to be her assistant (tasting) and photographer. Yeah, I should learn...
