Last lunch in Kharkiv at "Basta Pasta" - Ukraine life before the war

avatar

I feel very lazy when it comes to writing a post on the blockchain. I used to have so much energy before and inspiration but now, after coming back to my room; the bed is my only companion. I used to feel so enthusiastic writing about new things about Kharkiv before and nowadays, I don't find any topic to write about.

I have so many memories about Kharkiv to write about but I just feel sad to write about them I think. I was thinking to write a few posts lately but due to my laziness, I have ended up writing almost nothing. So, today I have decided to write about something that I enjoyed before the war in Ukraine; my last lunch in Ukraine.

Basta Pasta was an Italian restaurant which was located on the top floor of Nikolsky Shopping Mall in Kharkiv, Ukraine. But due to war, the Nikolsky mall got hit by missiles, and the top floor was destroyed almost so the current location of this restaurant is near the Nikolsky Mall at Pushkins'ka Street. Today I am going to write about the restaurant where I was able to enjoy my last lunch.

Get ready for tons of photos... Hahaha...

Basta Pasta is known for its exquisite Italian cuisine and they have branches in different countries including Kharkiv, Ukraine. Even in Amsterdam, they have a restaurant as well which I haven't visited yet. When I was in Ukraine, I used to go to different restaurants during the weekend and used to love to taste different varieties of food. I had some go-to restaurants that I used to visit often but that was the first and last time I had visited Basta Pasta in Ukraine.

I love Italian food and never felt afraid to taste different types of Italian food.

It was the last weekend before the war had broken out in Ukraine, I went to Nikolsky for shopping and ended up having lunch at Basta Pasta. Basta Pasta was one of the nice restaurants at Nikolsky Mall in fact I would say it was one of the well interior, classy, and well-furnished restaurants in Kharkiv.

After entering to the restaurant, a waitress welcomed us and showed us our place to sit. I normally choose a unique place to sit where I can see the entire restaurant's activities. It's kind of weird but it is one of my characteristics because I love to observe everything...

The interior of the restaurant was very cozy and well-furnished. It was not traditional but more like a modern interior using nice materials and fittings. The finished material of the interior- walls was interesting using monochromatic colors and texture. The mixture of brick and concrete texture had really produced a cozy environment for the customers. I personally liked the use of different chandeliers, they were made of interesting materials.

Sometimes the use of so many elements can create a chaotic interior design and ends up giving a low-key vibe to the customers and diners. But I didn't find anything to criticize about the interior of Basta Pasta.

The entrance of the restaurant was unique and inviting, the use of shutter doors and windows was really a clever idea for the exterior.

Outdoor Sitting area...

I had chosen a seat near the shutter window so that I could enjoy both inside and outside ambient...

I had taken some photos of the interior of the restaurant from different perspectives to show how the restaurants used to look like...

20220217_151624.jpg

I was quite surprised to see the earth oven inside the restaurant. It didn't look like an earth oven because it was covered with metal. But after my observation, I was sure it was Earth Oven where they make their pizzas.

Another pile of photos showcasing interior, wall materials, and lighting.

I ended up ordering so much food for myself. First I ordered the salad with feta cheese, olives, and tomatoes. Then I had ordered Italian ravioli with shrimp and beef bolognese pasta.

The portion of the food was nice, easily two people can share. The ravioli was so soft and tender and also the sauce was amazing. The SLA was fresh and of course, bolognese pasta is my all-time favorite with extra cheese.

20220217_152036.jpg20220217_152048.jpg

The sauce of the Ravioli was a little bit thicker according to my taste, I personally don't like too much creamy thick sauce. But probably I find it thicker because I was tasting two types of kinds of pasta...

20220217_155120.jpg20220217_155118.jpg

For dessert, I ordered creme brulee which was amazing and my top favorite. I love creme brulee a lot...

For drinks, I ordered a Banana and Vanilla milkshake.

Now you know I had a heavy lunch at Basta Pasta. The foods were delicious, exquisite, and moreover well garnished and nicely presented.

It is really sad to see what happened to the restaurant now after spending a lot of money on establishing the restaurant by the owners. But it is what it is... They opened a new outlet already in Kharkiv.

I had no idea that it would be my last lunch in a nice restaurant in Kharkiv. I was enjoying my life and exploring different cuisines. But anyway, this is life, my fate, and hope one day I will return to Kharkiv...

Thank you so much for reading...

Priya, sometimes, people who care about others need to say things which might be difficult to say and hear but do so with only the best intentions.

With that in mind...

I worry about you. You've had a year from hell which most of us thankfully can't even imagine and you are obviously suffering so much it's heartbreaking.

Are there counselling services you can access that are designed to help displaced victims of the war like yourself?

I imagine you are feeling trapped and stuck in the past and what were obviously special and happy times but of course, things have dramatically and tragically changed.

Might I suggest it could help your well being if you tried to get it down on paper, what you're looking forward to, things you aim to do in future, what your goals, hopes and dreams are, what you have to still be happy about and try and try and focus on them to try and give you a lift .

I think placing too much emphasis on an unchangeable past isnt going to help your pain and the hundreds and thousands of people on Hive whose lives you have touched in such a positive way want to see you well and your suffering to ease.

If you feel it might help chatting to a semi-anonymous old bloke on the internet , send me a message on discord.

You take care and do whatever YOU feel you need to do to make yourself feel better but always keep it in mind, help is out there.

Thanks for all the support and votes and curation you've given me over the years here, and please understand I wrote this comment with only my best intentions towards you in mind.

Thank you so much @nathen007 for all of your support and encouragement, friend like you always motivates me to move forward. I have been better, I started focusing on my well-being and started doing things that I love the most. I still feel scared thinking about my future and career because it is not so easy to settle down in a new country. Yes, you are right, I suffered a lot, both mentally and physically in fact my health was really bad when I fled from the war. I don't have PTSD but my mood swings a lot. I get angry easily and I feel I am holding so much anger inside me.

I have been working on my stress level and emotions, I take proper rest and do whatever I want to do. Sometimes I feel demotivated thinking about what I am going to do in the future. When I started my life in Ukraine, I was also scared but not like this, that time I had family support but this time I am completely alone. I am glad Gigi is with me and fills my life with joy and happiness...

Yes, it did happen...

I tried and the result was not good at all. Besides, I didn't get the necessary help due to the medical system in Holland... Will explain everything one day.

I started talking to people slowly, hopefully, it will help to ease my pain...

Thank you for being such a good friend...

It was a really beautiful place. Now that you've shared the photos, they may survive as a fond memory, on the web, and in the memory of all of us who read your post.

And at the end of the day, a good part of living is remembering what is beautiful to us.

This is a lovely, elegant-looking place and the food looks amazing! Who knows, though, their new location might look even better once the war ends and you return to Kharkiv. I think it is good that you are writing about the fun times you had there. It might help you heal to concentrate on good times and then look for new "good times" while you are staying in Almere. 🙂

Good memories always bring joy and happiness in my life and make me smile thinking that I had good days in life. I started believing that things will be better slowly and I really hope that I will see good days in life. Almere is also a nice city but for now, I need to process and adapt this huge change in life...

Thank you @thekittygirl for always supporting me and for being such a great friend...
