Affordable High-Quality Sushi at Taiko Sushi (大興寿司)

In this article, I am going to share with you a hidden gem of a sushi place located in the Shinseikai district, a stone's throw away from where I live. My friend and I found ourselves waiting for about 20 minutes, a testament to the restaurant's popularity. The establishment is quaint and cosy, featuring counter-style seating arrangements encircling the sushi chefs in action. Once you're in the queue, a staff member will guide you to your seat.

If language is a concern, fret not. The restaurant provides an English menu complete with pictures, making it remarkably simple to choose your dishes. Ordering is straightforward; all you have to do is note down your desired dishes' numbers on a slip of paper at your table and hand it to the staff.

Locals love this place – I observed that about 80-90% of the queue comprised Japanese patrons. What sets this place apart is the affordability; prices start from as low as 150 JPY or approximately 1.2 USD for three pieces of sushi. Such competitive pricing allowed me to sample a variety of sushi.

What I particularly appreciate about their sushi is the smaller portion of rice compared to the toppings, making it possible to savour each piece in a single bite.

The establishment boasts two locations, a short distance apart: the primary outlet, Hong Teng, and a southern branch. On our visit, the main restaurant had quite a long line, prompting us to opt for the southern branch instead.

If you're interested in trying out this place, you'll find it nestled in a narrow alley off Shotengkai Walking Street. Walk towards the end of the road, and you'll find two sushi restaurants – both are branches of the same eatery.

Remember, their English menu includes pictures, so don't hesitate to browse and place your order based on the visuals. 😆😆😆

Address: 〒556-0002 3-2-18 Ebisuhigashi, Naniwa-ku, Osaka-shi, Osaka

Operating hours: 11:00-21:00 (last order 20:30)

On this visit, I wasn't alone; I brought a friend from Nagoya for a welcome meal in Osaka. A big thank you for their friendship. If this place piques your interest, make sure to add it to your must-visit list. 😊
