Postcards from Thailand #42: Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep

avatar

It's been a funny old day. Woke up to find out the chick's had hatched but there were six eggs but only four chicks, so perhaps a cat or another chicken got to them first sadly.

Either way, none of the other chickens dare go near mummy and babies now. Baby chicks have to be a good photo to start any post!

So then I went to pick up my morning coffee from 7/11 before going to the beach and there was a headless horseman statue on the floor outside. So many questions. Why? Who left it? How did it get broken?

I was still pondering the broken statue when we dashed out for noodles for lunch, where my favourite piece of artwork sits on the wall of a shack...

I love this picture. The girl just stares out with an almost Mona Lisaesque expression as you tuck into the noodles. The owner is quite new and no one seems to know who painted it or how it got there. More questions!

This place is about one kilometre away, and I just noticed that there was no one else in the picture! It's an odd place as the soup and the rest of the ingredients come in separate bowls.

Anyway, the wife had the noodles. I just had ice cream as they also hand make the most delicious coconut ice cream, which I had with carnation and peanuts. Yes. I know. Bizarre, but the roasted peanuts do go well with the ice cream. What? Salted peanuts, you say? Seriously not. Whatever are you thinking?

Yes, two spoons. I don't think so, lady!

This afternoon, it absolutely tipped it down and as I was tidying up and closing down for the day, I almost tripped over the biggest snail I've seen in my life.

It's difficult to tell from the picture but it's about eight inches long and about four inches high. Massive.

And that was Wednesday. All downhill to the weekend now, so I hope everyone is having a great week and has some amazing plans for the weekend.

Best wishes
@nathen007

We like your wee lass' style! Send me a list of Asian beasties she likes and i'll bring some across for her at Christmas....or she'll at least be able to see them on endless repeat on episodes of Border Patrol on Dave! Win-win ..for her at least!

PS Off to google the possessive of 'lass' haha

What a good momma hen she is! It's a sad thing to lose two tiny babies but it just happens sometimes. That ice cream, though....good call!

You could almost strap a saddle on that snail lol.

Thanks. Mummy hens are fierce. We've had three small broods this year and watching the relationships between the big daddy and his increasing clan ...as well as the endless battling and sneaking off to meet some of the neighbours chickens is really funny. They all live free, no pens or cages so it's like a chicken soap opera...

God, I need to get out more!

Thank you for dropping by, apologies for the late reply as I managed to get food poisoning quite badly. Thai street food...don't believe the hype!

Have a wonderful weekend :-)

My new Rock n Roll lifestyle...how age creeps up :-(

Just to make things worse, had to spend a night in hospital with suspected dengue fever. Luckily it was 'only' severe food poisoning. First Docs visit for 15 years! I'm obviously on a steep downwards curve now haha!

Hope you're having a great weekend :-)
