Poe, Miss Molly and friends
When you inherit a feline grandchild and live in a country with a rampant crime rate, leaving home to go out for a couple of hours becomes a real rigmarole.
As we have to activate our house alarm, which picks up any movement, Poe is thrown outside during the time we're out on our jaunt.
He's very clever and knows exactly when we're on our way out, and sometimes hides away on a windowsill behind the curtains, so it becomes a big search party before we leave.
Windows naturally have to be closed or the alarm could be triggered by a slight breeze blowing the curtains.
Food and water bowls are moved outside, and Poe is not happy at all.
This Mr. Poe has been spoiled rotten from the time our son and his girlfriend took him under their wings; or rather, he chose them to be his new parents when they went to their local SPCA.
All the other abandoned kittens were hiding in the corner, but Poe bravely walked up to them. It was love at first sight!
As I told you before, I'm a bird lover, so when the son informed us that we would become grandparents of their feline baby when they emigrate, I was not too excited, but capitulated, determined to reform this cat who will NOT kill my garden birds.
Bells on his collar, feeding him with the best food, giving him treats so he never gets hungry and needs to hunt, did not work.
Yep, @fionasfavourites, you were right, getting a bigger bell did not work either!
Birds, Geckos, even a small snake, have been brought into the house, much to my distress. Hubby tries to spare me the anguish and shock by removing Poe's 'kill', but I sometimes find them before he sees it, almost tripping over those 'gifts'!
He is a hunter after all, and I'll have to just accept that.
He was named after the Star Wars character - Poe Dameron, who I learned served as the tritagonist of the Sequel Trilogy of the Skywalker Saga.
Tritagonist?
Sounds like Greek to me...
In ancient Greek drama, the tritagonist was the third member of the acting troupe. As a character, a tritagonist may act as the instigator or cause of the sufferings of the protagonist.

Poe has caused some suffering indeed, like when he bit into my tender calves - think I told you about that before - cost me a visit to the doc, tetanus injection, antibiotics, and ointment, as those razor-sharp teeth went deep!
He no longer was my favourite grandchild!
Our new feline family member is a real enigma, one minute he's sweet, innocent, and playful, and a real scaredy cat needing protection!
The next minute he becomes a fearless hunter, his paws become claws as he pounces at lightning speed, and those razor-sharp teeth come out to kill his prey!
Back to the family visit up in the hills of KZN.
My sister-in-law spoiled us with delicious Tacos, after a walk through their garden. Most of their plants have been propagated from friends' and neighbour's gardens, all indigenous.
Crusoe, their little sausage dog, got so excited when other furry visitors arrived.
Miss Molly, the cutest little furball, was shaking from head to toe as Crusoe got a tad too boisterous. Her brother wasn't fazed at all, and Crusoe became calm when my sister-in-law's little blond nephew held him gently in his arms.
When we got back home, Poe was very aloof, pretending he didn't miss us at all, but very soon showed his cuddly side, lying spreadeagled on his back, like a baby waiting to have a nappy change on his special couch, and then fell asleep, likely exhausted after spending the afternoon hunting birds and other prey!
What a life - sleep, eat, hunt, and sleep again!

Kick ass post!
Poe may be worth the mission for the content alone
😆
Cats are weird. But fabulous. And also weird.
You'll fall in love with him soon enough. I'd take that bet.
Lovely moments of your life shared. Bravo, beautiful 😍
I'm so glad you enjoyed the story @nickydee! You're right, Poe has already stolen my heart. He's such a funny guy, full of character, and doesn't seem to know whether he's a cat or a dog. He's the nosiest cat of them all! Follows us when new guests arrive as he wants to meet and greet as well, a bit of a bother when a guest is allergic to cats, so we discourage him from going down to the cottage. We try to slip out quietly, but he outwits us every so often:)
Fortunately, our staff is very good with him, we'll be going away for about a month mid-May, if all goes to plan, but are confident that he'll be ok.
Hope you're keeping well Nicky xxx
❤️
Cats are very special creatures (or aliens!).
Super independent animals. Resourceful as well.
He'll be fine.
Super good here right now. Thank you, darling :D xxx
Poe is the handsomest bad guy ever! How about if you get a guard dog to guard the birds and your ankles.😄
Hahaha, the poor guard dog will be like little Miss Molly and run away if Poe is in one of his vengeful moods :):) He's the funniest cat ever, love him one minute and then hate him the next; he brought 2 birds in yesterday, yep not only 1, and he'd also killed them! I heard our gardener and hubby whispering and was only later told what happened! Poe was soooo angry that I had not seen it, when I came out of my bedroom, he fiercely charged and pounced on to the carpet runner where he leaves his prey! I was and still am horrified as I love my feathered friends. I hear them shout at him some days and when I go out to chase him, he gets very angry with me.
Likely that's why I became one of his victims :):)
I would be afraid that he would gift you a mouse.😕
Those tacos look fantastic! Poe sounds like a serious project. I've never really got along with cats, I'm more of a dog kind of guy. You sure have a cute little dog though! Great post and thanks for sharing!

Those were really good tacos, wish I had one now, it's time to eat here😅
Little Molly belongs to family, she'd never survive Poe😂 Thanks for the visit @thebighigg

Having had 10 other cats and with 3 more, ahem, yip... Rambo doesn't hunt, but 6 and 10 year old Gandalf and Princess Pearli both do. So, perhaps the more settled he becomes, the less he will hunt.
Oh, and word to the wise: don't tickle that tummy!
Sounds like Poe has the measure of you, though!😂
Yep, Poe has indeed won my heart😍 I learned very quickly that he wasn't asking for a tummy rub😅
Poe sounds another wee rascal like the wee rascal of @coquicoin perhaps it is the colouring!
Funnily enough now that I think of it, we had a black and white visitor a few years ago who was all sweet one minute then bam the claws would come out!
Gorgeous wee pups too Lizzie!
Someone told me it's a male cat thing Ed 😅😅😅
Little Molly really is just the cutest little pup😍 but was so scared when Crusoe got over-excited, imagine taking Poe with when he's in hunting mode!
hehe it could be, our cat I was talking about was male and of course Ageese, Eli's cat is male too!
He's a member of the charming rascal club. Jaja! No doubt about it.
Lucky for me, for now, my wee rascal so far has only been limited to hunting geckos and grasshoppers. So far the little birds on the balcony have had the good sense not to sneak into the house.
ah yes , as he does not have a garden as such, less chance of getting birds especially if the ones on the balcomy have learnt to stay away from the house Super Eli!
cats and their living gifts.... it starts with a good intention! I love your little dachshund, his look makes me laugh
Poe has it pretty good if you ask me.
Sounds like you had a pretty good day all around.
Cats are amazing and so enigmatic. So far I have been spared the fright of Grogu (named after Baby Yoda from Star Wars as well) catching one of the birds that perch on the balcony. We try to keep it closed most of the time.
But they are such cuddlers, and they do whatever they want, no matter what you do. The house becomes their kingdom, lol
Cuddles to prince Poe 😺😻
