Yes, many underestimate what goes into these even with the machine stitching now vs the hand stitching in olden days.. Especially with these fancier designs. For example, on that Llama quilt kit, I think each of those Llamas is like 14K stitches, then of course the extra to stitch them together, and then we had to pay like $500-$600 to have the backing and LongArm stitching for the overall and back pattern done. They are truly works of art, not just a horse blanket, lol.

It may sound like stupid question, but what are those things used for? To cover the bed during the day?

Majority get used as blankets for warmth, either on bed or as a couch cozy. Some folks use them as just decorative bed covers, others as the actual bed blanket. Some are also just used as decorative wall hangings (which seems a waste of the thickness and time to make into a blanket to me), but to each their own.
