Market Friday at the Quilt Show
So it's Market Friday and I finally got out of the house and to the local quilt show. Not that I am that interested in quilting personally, but my better half has been making them and doing some that include her custom embroidery work. I must admit though, they are my favorite type of blanket. I grew up with my Grandmother's quilts around and there's just nothing quite satisfying as the weight, feel and warmth of a nice cozy quilt.
This little show/contest was held in St. Albans, Vermont, about 25 miles away from us, nice and close to visit.
I'll start with her quilt, it actually won a ribbon! Impressive, as this was her first try at using this method.
She also made this Llama quilt that she sells as a kit. The Llama's are machine embroidered, and come in the kit as the full squares, ready to be sewn together. You can also see some of the custom kitchen towels, and one of the many baby blanket size designs in purple.
I'll post more of her stuff later, or head over to the website Desi's Threads
The rest of these are just other random favorites from the show/contest.
This one was one of our favorites with the hand crafted witches scenes.
The below shows more detail view. It was the second place winner overall.
I really liked this elephant one too.
This Parrot one interesting, but a bit too busy for my taste.
That's it!
Enjoy and Happy Marketing!

This materials on your blog post are so lovely, wish they sell it in my country. I will like to get them
Yes, they are very nice. Many don't realize all the hours that go into hand-crafting these individual works of art!
I love them thanks for posting this.
Aren't these spectacular? I have to agree about the quilts and their weight, it brings that special brand of home-inspired comfort to me. When at my coziest, I am probably adorned with a quilt.
Isn't it amazing to see these quilts at the contest level? So much thought and work go into each and every one. The patterns are so intricate and exact, nothing is off-limits when you are creating them. How long has your wife been quilting? No matter of time will make it better, she just has the skill and I am pretty sure she worked hard to hone it. It's a family thing, isn't it? The working hard? Playing hard?
I am awed by all of these. I cannot for the life of me pick one favorite! Thanks so much for showing these off!! Congratulations to your wife!
#MarketFriday began as a way to reach out across the globe and learn about different cultures through their markets, especially local markets and farmers' markets, and eventually branched out and evolved over time from straight shopping to a cultural affair as it highlights how we differ and then again, how much we are alike. We have become a melting pot of culture, but it is still the Rituals, Festivals, food, architecture, and even your language/languages that separate us... Along with the fact that these things are normal for us. There are unwritten rules that rule our social behaviors. I see this as allowing for increased tolerance between cultures and nations, and opportunities to come together on an even playing ground. A strong culture can be beneficial to a country as it promotes unity, especially during a crisis, peaceful debate, and open dialogue. I have learned so much about all of you and it has been an amazing experience. I can only hope that learning about each other can help us work together for a peaceful world.
Thank you for being a part of #MarketFriday
@ksteem Please drop your link on my #MarketFriday post here Thank you so much!
Added the reply link. I looked for your post this am, but I was up early and you were sleeping in! lol
I hope you all bought the last one xD it's beautiful, it has an Amazonian inspiration, right?
Hahaha, No! We have so many at the house now.. that she made but can't let go of.... will definitely not be buying any, but lots to hand down to the kids and grandkids.
Astonishing.... these are totally not a thing here. Well, at least as far as I know.
Quite popular here, and expensive! These big ones will go for over $2K each.
2000? Wow! But its a lot of work to make one, I guess.
Yes, many underestimate what goes into these even with the machine stitching now vs the hand stitching in olden days.. Especially with these fancier designs. For example, on that Llama quilt kit, I think each of those Llamas is like 14K stitches, then of course the extra to stitch them together, and then we had to pay like $500-$600 to have the backing and LongArm stitching for the overall and back pattern done. They are truly works of art, not just a horse blanket, lol.
It may sound like stupid question, but what are those things used for? To cover the bed during the day?
Majority get used as blankets for warmth, either on bed or as a couch cozy. Some folks use them as just decorative bed covers, others as the actual bed blanket. Some are also just used as decorative wall hangings (which seems a waste of the thickness and time to make into a blanket to me), but to each their own.
