ハロウィンの日

今日は１０月３１日。あっという間に１０月が過ぎ去ってしまいました。今日は朝からティーンの日本語レッスンでした。「ハロウィンなのでよかったら仮装をしてきてね！」と伝えると、黙ってニコニコしていたので恥ずかしいのだろうと思っていました。ところが、ズームに現れた彼女たちはばっちりアニメのキャラに変身して登場してくれました。呪術廻戦の釘崎野薔薇と鬼滅の刃の禰󠄀豆子のコスプレは最高でした。スクリーンショットの彼女たちの写真をお見せできないのが残念ですが、アニメのキャラはオンラインでも映えますね。

ニュースで読みましたが、毎年恒例になっていた渋谷のハロウィンは禁止になったのですね。日本のハロウィンコスプレは海外でも有名ですので、レッスン内でもあらゆるハロウィンのコスプレのビデオを見るのを楽しみにしているところもあったので、ちょっと残念です。しかし、やはり街の安全な環境作りが一番大事ですものね。生徒さんたちの間でも話題になっていて、ハロウィン禁止の看板を読み書きのレッスンで使用しました。

折り紙でお化けかぼちゃを折ったのですが、ビデオや説明文、それからカメラを駆使して折り方を見せたのですが、三角を開いて四角にする部分がどうしてもカメラ越しには難しかった人がいて、宿題になりました。カメラやビデオを見て折るのは直接お手伝いできないのでちょっともどかしいこともあります。バーチャルカメラがあればわかりやすいのでしょうか！折り紙を教えていてよく思うのですが、日本のお子さんたちと折り紙をする場合は、小さな頃からの基礎ができているので１０分くらいあればある程度の折り紙が完成できます。でも、折り紙の歴史がない方たちにいきなり折るというのは、１０分では足りないのだといつも思い知らされます。今日は多めに１５分程度用意したのですが、それでもちょっとチャレンジでした。

レッスンが終わってから、主人がジャック・オー・ランタンを作成してくれました。主人のメインは種をローストすることです。カリカリでしょっぱくて美味しい種のお菓子ができあがりました。主人のランタンの顔は映画グーニーズに登場するスロース風の顔にしたそうです。私は極々普通のジャックの顔にしました。

町中に住んでいた時は、近所の子供たち用にお菓子を用意していましたが、今住んでいる山中では子どもたちが少ないので特に用意はしません。ですから、このランタンは外には出しません。家の中でろうそくを灯しています。この辺りに住む子どもたちは、車で町にくりだしてお菓子をもらいに行くようです。

すっかり朝晩寒くなり、暗くなるのがとっても早いです。もう時期サマータイムも終了です。明日はなんと…、雪の予報です。いやです。まだ秋を堪能したいです。それではみなさん、ハッピーハロウィン！

Halloween Day

It was the 31st of October. October went by really fast. Today, I had an online Japanese class for teenagers. I told them they could wear Halloween costumes if they wanted. They were smiling when I told them that and they didn't say anything, but they wore cool anime costumes today. One wore a Kugisaki Nobara costume from "Jujutsu Kaisen," and another wore a Nezuko costume from "Demon Slayer."

I read in the news that the annual Shibuya Halloween has been banned. It's a bit disappointing since the topic of Halloween is also popular overseas, and we were looking forward to watching various Halloween cosplay videos during the lessons. However, of course, creating a safe environment in the city is the most important thing. The topic also came up among my students, and we used signs announcing the Halloween ban as material for reading and writing lessons.

I tried to teach my students to make a Ghost Pumpkin using origami. It was a bit hard for them, especially the part about making a square. Japanese kids usually know some origami basics, so 10 minutes is usually enough for them to make Origami artwork. I planned 15 minutes for the origami, but it wasn't enough time. So, I gave it to them as homework. I wish we had a virtual camera or something.

After my class, my husband and I carved pumpkins. He tried to make Sloth from "The Goonies" movie. I made a regular Jack-O-Lantern face. He also roasted the pumpkin seeds, and they were crunchy and tasty.

We used to live downtown and would give out candy to kids for Halloween. But now we live in a place with fewer kids. I heard that these days, kids go downtown by car for trick-or-treating. We don't put our Jack-O-Lantern outside. We keep it inside our house.

The weather is getting colder. We might even get snow tomorrow. I wish it could stay like autumn for a longer time. Happy Halloween to everyone!

I put a candle into the lantern because it was getting darker little by little. It created a scary atmosphere.

These are roasted pumpkin seeds made by my husband. He used cumin, olive oil, and salt and pepper for seasoning. They are savoury, salty, and tasty.
