Finding Time Despite the Hustle: Because Family Always Matters

Happy Monday Hivers!

There are nine of us siblings, but not everyone is in the Philippines. Two of them are in Canada, and one is in Australia. Since some of my siblings are working abroad, it’s very rare for us to be completely together. Usually, when one is here, the others are not, that’s what often happens in our family.

It’s always wonderful when families get together and everyone’s complete, but in our case, it’s quite difficult because we all have different schedules when it comes to going home. So far, our availability has never matched. But that’s okay, communication is now so easy. Even if we’re not physically complete, it still feels like we are, because those who can’t come home make sure to call and join us virtually.

This year, two of my siblings came home, one from Canada and the other from Australia. However, they didn’t come home at the same time because their vacation schedules didn’t match.

My older sister from Canada came home last May. During that time, I was very busy at work because I was in charge of the company activities and was preparing for two teambuilding events. Despite my hectic schedule, I still made sure to find time to bond with my sister.

One of the things we did during her visit was to celebrate an advance birthday for our father. Since my sister wouldn’t be around on his actual birthday because she had to return to Canada, we decided to celebrate it early.

We chose to dine again at Seaview Restaurant in Il Corso. We had tried it before and really liked both their food and customer service, so we decided to go back. That’s just how we are, once we’re satisfied, we always come back!

We usually prefer alfresco dining because there’s a live band and we can even dance with their dance instructors. Unfortunately, it was raining heavily that night, so we had no choice but to stay indoors. It was a bit of a pity because my sister didn’t get to experience dancing there, something we really wanted her to try.

Last August, our youngest sibling who’s based in Australia also came home. She timed his vacation to coincide with our mother’s birthday because she wanted to surprise her.

One of our outings was dining at one of our favorite restaurants located in Naga City. Every time we visit the Naga Baywalk, my younger siblings always choose to eat at Parola restaurant— it’s their go-to place. Aside from being affordable, the food is also really delicious, which is why we keep coming back.

Although we’re all busy with our own lives, we always make sure that whenever someone comes home from abroad, we spend time together and bond as a family. Even if we’re not complete, what matters most is that we still make time for each other. No matter how busy life gets, we never forget that family always matters.
