Myeongdong Street Food Market Snaps!

Myeongdong is famous as a shopping center for tourists and locals alike. But aside from that, it is also famous for its street food market. Of course, we had to check it not just once but twice.

Our first visit was on our first day in Seoul. We came early for us to find a money exchanger and then went to check out the underground shops. The second time was on our third night, it rained but it didn't stop us from taking snaps of the scenes around the street food market!

This blog then is filled with photographs, may your eyes be full as you try to imagine the taste of each street food. Don't worry, the feelings are mutual as I didn't even try one of them during our visit because I was already nauseous at that time being four weeks pregnant, everything in there at that time didn't smell good so I have to distance myself, good thing, we had a long-range lens, I stood at the corner of the shops and took photos from there.

Enjoy the photos guys! These were shot with a Sony A6000 paired with a 56 mm lens which is 80 mm equivalent on APSC. This range already gave me the luxury of space from my distance to the subject.

Corn anyone? This is called ginanggang in our local dialect.

DSC00006.jpg

Candied strawberry and some grilled pork meat. This is a hit!

DSC00013.jpg

Dakgangjeong: Sweet Crispy Korean Fried Chicken

DSC00009.jpg

Gun Goguma: Roasted Sweet Potatoes at the back and some crispy fish thingy here. I am not sure if this was salty.

DSC00018.jpg

Shrimp skewers, not sure what they are called by Koreans though.

DSC00021.jpg

Cheesy shell! Koreans love cheese!

DSC00023.jpg

These are dried octopus! I believe this tastes like Cebu's dried squid which is one of my favorite dried food!

DSC00025.jpg

Bungeo-Ppang: Korean Fish Shaped Pastry. This is very tempting.

DSC00019.jpg

DSC00026.jpg

DSC00020.jpg

Of course, Gamja-Hotdog: Korean-style French Fries Corn Dog won't be absent!

DSC00016.jpg

Vendors entertaining their customers. There are a lot of opportunities here because of the many people passing by from shopping. It was also cold and wet so most people find comfort in getting their stomachs full!

DSC00003.jpg

More skewers. I guess those were like barbecue thingy just like what we have in the Philippines.

DSC00010.jpg

Strawberries! These are very expensive back in the Philippines but they are just being sold on the streets in Seoul.

DSC00043.jpg

Hotteok: Korean Sweet Pancakes, this is just a guess as the photo looked thick but I can only think of stuffed pancake though.

DSC00001.jpg

Tourists and locals alike are all enjoying the food available!

DSC00037.jpg

Hot bar is deep-fried fish paste served on a stick or skewer. For more variety in flavors, other ingredients are added, including cheese, rice cake, perilla leaf, chili, seaweed, sausage, or ham.

DSC00040.jpg

Red bean cake is also very popular here.

DSC00041.jpg

I guess the above is an omelet but it also looks like a pizza. What do you think? After researching it, I found out it is called Pajeon, a variation of Korean pancakes. It consist of wheat and rice flour, eggs, as well as lots of onions.

DSC00044.jpg

Another hand-making pancake! We tried this on Nami Island and it was good.

DSC00045.jpg

Can you spot the Tteokbokki: Spicy Stir-fried Rice Cakes? Well, it's kind of blurred out at the back. The focus in this photo is the mushroom.

DSC00036.jpg

More people, more customers, equals more earnings!

DSC00031.jpg

Gyeran-Ppang: Egg Bread, there were layers of egg waiting to be cracked at the back!

DSC00017.jpg

Juices are also available of course, this one is Pomegranate!

DSC00027.jpg

Stalls are always very informative in Seoul, they put on the name and then the prices as well as the photo of the food they are selling. There's no more questioning as soon as you get to the stall, just give the money, and done!

DSC00011.jpg

Sotteok Sotteok: Korean Hotdog and Rice Cake Skewers. Pretty self-explanatory!

DSC00014.jpg

Skewers here and there! Smoke was really helpful to keep the vendors and customers warm!

DSC00046.jpg

Tteokbokki in the house, there were so many stalls selling them!

DSC00047.jpg

Any Korean food lover recognizes these as Mandu. Most of the time, they are stuffed with pork, onions, and kimchi.

DSC00038.jpg

Some banana Nutella crepes too for the sweet tooth!

DSC00042.jpg

Consumers can opt to eat the ordered food right in front of the stall or have it on the go. Eating while walking isn't a crime so you can go hopping from one stall to another! What's really cool here is that almost everyone who passes by has a cup or a stick in their hands! Just like the lady above.

Thanks for checking out this blog!
