Idk why, but I love this shit. Would love to try and find these places someday, see how much they've changed. I also think about that probably 99% of the people in these pics are dead....idk why, but it just occurs to me. lol

Slides like this show up all the time on eBay and Goodwill's auction site. Mostly I think they originally come from estate sales. It seems an odd thing to get rid of...pretty much the same as selling or donating a photo album. But I guess younger family members might not know what to do with them or care enough to find out. And there seems to be a demand for them from people who use them for arts and crafts stuff. Honestly, I think they should all be scanned for posterity. Sure, there's tons of photos from the pre-digital age but they are far more rare than they are today when everyone has a camera in their pocket. I can only scan so many though :).

I've scanned somewhere in the neighborhood of 3000 slides since I started doing this. I found at least one that actually was taken near where I live. I identified it because there was a van of a plumber with an address and phone number visible in the picture. For most of them it is hard to know where they were taken but now and then there is something that makes the location known. Going through these slides and not knowing what's going to be on them feels a bit like an archaeological dig.

Absolutely man!

Going through these slides and not knowing what's going to be on them feels a bit like an archaeological dig.

That's what I'm talking about. Who were these people? Where was this? What was the occasion??? I love the mystery of it all....as we will probably never know.
