Love Story: How I Met My Partner on Instagram Comment Section

Hey wonderful followers,

I know this gist is long overdue, I have promised to share the gist here since I made my first post and it's time I share my story since we are planning our wedding already. Don’t worry, I won’t rush the story and I promised to give you full details. So forgive my lateness, get your popcorn ready and remember to get a glass of wine or water (lol).
During my NYSC (National Youth Service Corp), a program that is organised for graduates in Nigeria, I followed my passion which is photography which was in 2019. I decided to scale up my knowledge to a professional level. You can check out my introductory post (my first post) I shared the full story. While I was training, I usually photographed my colleagues just to practice and be perfect with my camera handling and editing.

Before Covid19, I photographed one of my colleagues and I left the photos unedited. One faithful day during the lockdown in 2020, I was bored so I decided to check my hard drive to see if there were any photos I could edit at least to check out my editing skill, I looked through my hard drive and found those photos, edited them and felt very reluctant to share them on social media. I can not say why I felt that way but something later pushed me that day to share those photos on social media and INSTAGRAM was the first platform I shared the Photos. What happened after? I got a comment from my partner, let me quote. “I love the skintone! It’s amazing” I felt so honoured and went straight to his DM to thank him. Let me tell you why. Kodeblacc, my partner is an amazing photographer based in the city of Port Harcourt Nigeria. I came across his page on Instagram in 2019 and I love his works, they are so natural and always stunning. I remember I sent him a DM that year just to let him know that I look forward to creating amazing photos as he does and being a master at photography like him. So, it feels too great to receive a comment from him on a post I reluctantly shared. Isn’t that amazing? (Yes it is, I guess right).

After I sent him an appreciation message in his DM and how the comment motivated me to keep sharing my work, we got talking that day. We moved from “chief’ and “boss” to “madam” and “my oga” Guess what guys, he thought I was a man at first (lol) that was where the chief came from, I don't know why most people address female photographers as boss, guy, chief, etc. (anyway we will get to discuss that one day).
November 21st, 2020 was one of the days I cherish in my life, it was one of the days I made the best decisions and the decision was to share those photos on social media. We had great conversations throughout that day, from chatting to audio calls and then to video calls, it was during the lockdown and we had enough time to bond. The conversation went on until almost morning the next day. Guys, if you ask me what we were discussing, I can’t remember (lol) but I know it was an amazing time for me in the past 7-8 months of being single.

The conversation continued the next day and it was like that until I can’t remember how we moved from “okay my oga” to “okay babe” (my oga means my boss). I only remember that he told me he loved me on my birthday 03/01/2021 and I told him that I love him too. So, I guess that was the start of our love story. His birthday was next, 12 days after mine and we were already in a thing I can call a relationship at then.
Days after days, weeks and months, we continued our dating online, we couldn’t get to meet because of the distance, he was in PH city and I was in Lagos. Our dating continued online, we kept bonding, sharing our life experiences and just getting to know each other more and better.

I was so committed to the relationship after praying to God about it, and I was vulnerable enough to let him know how I felt. It was more like I was too certain about him. I didn’t tell anyone about him except my best friend. She was afraid for me because I had never been in a long-distance relationship before, and it was now with someone I hadn’t met before. She was really worried but supported me.
We continued talking for months and at a point I wanted to meet with him. I couldn’t help but see him. I am the last born of my family and I haven’t travelled that far so I wasn’t sure I would be allowed to go. I stay with my uncle and he is always been careful, even within Lagos, he always makes sure I am safe and calls when I am staying late outside. I communicated to my man that I wanted us to see, and he promised to find a time to come but guess, he cancelled on me. Not like he ghosted me, I asked him if he was still going to make it to see me as promised and he said no. This was December 2021 about 13 months after we met online. I fell sick and broken because I had anticipated to meet him. Christmas and the New Year celebrations passed, and I didn’t enjoy any, I was heartbroken.
On my birthday, 03/01/2022, I sent him a text that I didn’t want to continue with the relationship and that it felt like I was pushing him to make a decision or force him to see me. It was my fault guys, if I had my way I would have travelled but I couldn’t. The message hurt him so badly because received the message just immediately after the package he sent to me for my birthday got to me. (I wasn’t aware he was sending any package, I received a call just after I sent him the message). He felt really bad because he called me, but I had to express myself. I was broken as well. I love him so much but it felt like he wasn’t seeing it. I was confused. I didn’t even inform my best friend I was breaking up with him, I told her after I had sent him the text.

He called after he got the text and we had to call it a day.
A few days before his birthday, I got a vendor to get him a birthday gift, I mean, I still love him and I still want him back, I just wanted him to be sure he wanted the relationship. I love us together, I love him being my role model, I love how he motivates me and helps me through my photography growth, I love how I support him as well and I love the bond and I wanted him back. His birthday came, he got his gift and called, he told me he missed me but I wanted him to tell me that we could try again instead. We ended the conversation that day and we both moved on.

Guess who got back together guys?
On the 7th of March, 2022, it was my cycle and I usually have terrible cramps, I couldn’t sleep and I was awake during the night. I got a message from him on Instagram, he asked why I was awake and I told him. He asked what he could do to help me feel better and I requested that he sing for me. He called and sang. I felt better, so much so that I fell asleep on the call. He left me a message that he wanted to talk to me again so he would call the next day. The next morning I got his text but it was a busy day for me so I had to tell him that we could have the conversation at night on that day. My day was well spent and it was night, so he called and made some deep conversations. This was the first time I would see a man being Vulnerable. He told me everything he was scared about. Guys, can you guess why this man didn’t want to show up? Let me tell you, He was scared I wouldn’t love his body size. (It was really funny to me because I have never once complained about his body size) I mean, He is a tall, sugar daddy vibe man, who won’t love that? And to think it was even about his body, I love this man genuinely. I can’t explain why but I love him so much.

The conversation continued that night and it was a new beginning for us! Something great happened after that night guys and I will share it in my next love story post.

There is a part I skipped, this man sings for me almost all night so that I can sleep and he watches me until I fall asleep before he gets off the video call. (unless on days when he is stressed from work or bad network days, I understand.

If you read my love story and you can relate to it, please share it in the comment section.

Thanks for reading and I hope to see you in my next edition love storytelling.

We finally met; yes! you guessed correctly. Do you want to know about it? Tell me in the comment section.
