Food can be angry!

When you collect your own food, sometimes it’s very upset and doesn’t want to be eaten. Here you can see some feisty food: wild river crabs that we went hunting for recently and we did pretty well. We just got a few bites — nothing serious but a bit painful, as you can see here. Of course the little ones don’t hurt when they bite, but the big ones are a whole different story.

When you live in the mountains you have a whole arsenal of free food. You just have to know where to look. And our rivers give us an unmatched source of food, as you can see. In this case the food is sweet and delicious to go with the best part of our protein-based diet.

But there’s also the possibility of going to the sea. And out there in our estuaries there are also blue crabs, which are quite expensive. But sometimes price does matter and sometimes it doesn’t. Remember, the only thing we take with us from this life is what we’ve danced and what we’ve eaten, so sometimes it’s not good to be cheap. These crabs are a delight boiled just like that. Their meat is also sweet and their insides are bitter from the mangroves they feed on.

And finally, if you have the chance you can also go to the little diner on the corner and have a good meat stew if you don’t have time to go hunting, which in this case is ideal: gathering your own food straight from the forest. That way you have your own food sovereignty. That’s what we should all be looking for in the great infinite pantry we have in our forests: fish, crustaceans, leaves, roots, mushrooms, stems, flowers, and fruits. There’s an endless amount of food — you just have to know what and where to look.
