Taiwanese Braised Pork Rice & New Zealand Apple Pie at Hans-Union
Finally, I made it to Hans-Union! It took me 3 weeks to decide whether I would eat here or go to a cheaper food place. I assume that the food in this place is expensive because of the way it was designed, its branding, it’s air-conditioned, and it has pastries. I’m very intrigued by this place because they made me feel like I’m entering into an above-average priced restaurant but it turns out to be a worthy dining experience.
I learned about Hans-Union when I visited the Springleaf Nature Park about 3 weeks ago. I already had lunch when I passed by the restaurant so I felt frustrated but I did promise myself that I would be back some other time.
Back to the present, while I was on the MRT I happened to pass by the Springleaf station, I quickly alighted from the train and made a firm decision to eat in this place.
I ordered the Braised Pork Rice and a slice of New Zealand Apple pie.
To be honest, I didn't pick the Braised Pork Rice because I wanted to have it, it's the cheapest among all of the savory choices 😅. It cost me S$9.50 which is more expensive than anything that I could find in a hawker center.
It's a good thing that it was delicious and I like the presentation of the dish. I mixed each item in this bowl and then I enjoyed it so much.
I think this dish was inspired by a Taiwanese dish because it looks similar and it has a resemblance in the taste as well. I think the cooking technique on the egg is perfect because the white was cooked well while the yolk is still runny and yummy.
What's surprising about Hans-Union is the price of their pastries and cakes. I thought I was dreaming when I saw that price that ranges from S$1.60 to S$5.50 which is so much cheaper than Starbucks. It made me think that this could be their marketing strategy. They will entice you with their nice and affordable dessert to urge you to spend some money on their expensive savory meals.
I had a hard time choosing which among these nice sweet delights I get during this dinner. Eventually, I decided to get the New Zealand Apple Pie because I was curious what an NZ apple pie would taste like.
I think it's almost the same as the American version of apple pie except that this New Zealand version has raisins in it.
I felt satisfied with this meal and I'm so glad that I chose to finally come to this place and experience the food. The interior is better than a hawkers center which is a strong factor for me to say that although I spent more than I used to, it's worth it!
The quality of food and the way it was plated makes a lot of difference in the dining experience.
I will come back to this place to try the other savory meals and especially the other desserts that they offer. See you soon Hans-Union!

I like your rice with meat and eggs. It looks so delicious, especially the peach longg egg hehe
I also like this style of cooking egg, it's the right timing, the over cooked eggs is not so good in my opinion :)
