My first time trying the Ah Gong Teochew Noodle

Last night, I went to the Golden Mile Food Centre to see if the noodle and dumpling stall is still open. I went there because I was craving for a handmade noodle meal. The stall that I usually go to is the Flavorful Delight stall which makes all its noodles and dumplings by hand and from scratch. There’s nothing that could compare to handmade noodles when it comes to the texture of it, not even the best factory-made ones.

I was disappointed to see that it was already closed for the night, I guess they already sold all their food this early in the evening. Even though I didn’t get what I was here for, I still checked each of the stalls that were still open to see if there was something that I would like.

I passed by the Ah Gong Teochew Noodle stall and wondered why I never noticed it before. The noodles that they serve are also handmade and it looks like they have a reputation in this category of noodles. The very first hawker version of it dates back to the early 60’s and it was run by the Heng family. And with this information in mind, I decided to order the first item in their menu which happens to be their signature dish.

The presentation is what you would expect from a hawker noodle stall, I would describe it as an artful chaos 😅. It’s how it was done during the old days and it’s the taste that counts.

In this bowl, I have freshly made noodles, fish balls, meatballs, and fish cake. All of which are of good quality and I like them all.

The chef is good enough to cater to my “less” spicy request. I’m not a big fan of spicy food but the flavor that I will get from the chili paste is worth the trouble of a sweaty forehead and a temporary runny nose.

For a price of S$4.00, I think that this is the best noodle dish that I have ever eaten this year. I wonder why they haven’t gotten a Michelin star yet.

You have to try this 😅, it's the best S$4 bowl of noodles.
