Lian Xing's Double Fish soup with rice (A healthy Sunday lunch)
I've had too many greasy food yesterday and so I wanted to eat something different today.
Whenever I need something healthy and affordable to eat, Lian Xing Noodle is my go-to place to grab a nice bowl of soup. I like to support this hawker food place because they are staying true to the quality and affordability of their food. They never raise the price so much compared to the other stalls and yet they maintain the quality of the food they serve.
For today, I ordered Double Fish soup with rice. The noodle version is priced at S$5.50 while the version that I ordered is S$6.00 which is not bad considering the amount of serving they provide.
What I like about their fish soup is the lightness of the broth. In comparison to the other stalls, they don't add cream into the soup which is something that I prefer. The fish soup with cream feels odd to me even though it also tastes good. Maybe I'm not used to eating fish with milk or cream, that's all I can think of.
About the ingredients in this fish soup, I noticed that they add a handful of coriander and ginger to the soup. I like it because it tastes fresh and less of the fishy smell and flavor. I think it's a clever use of herbs and spices to make this soup as fresh and tasty as it gets.
Another thing that I wanted to highlight about this dish is that it's not greasy at all. There is fish soup that I tried that has oil floating on the top of the soup. I'm not sure why there soups made that way but I think that it should be there. The soup that I'm having now is clear and it doesn't have unnecessary ingredients in it. I would say that it's a basic fish soup that is genuinely good.
It's nice having a food place like this that I can go to whenever I just like having a healthy meal. I felt better after this experience. I will be back soon!
Your soup looks delicious hehe. I also often eat fish
Seafood is my favorite too… soup & grilled is what I think are the best ways to cook it 😅
I love good and easy to find (and eat) fish soup! It's always a comfort food for me too. When you guys eat (in Singapore, right?) do you also put variety of condiments like fish sauce or sugar like us? We do that too much I think lol Thai ppl need lots and loud flavor in a menu like this.
I've eaten at some of the Thai restaurants here in SG and noticed the big difference when it comes to flavor and taste. Chinese food tastes bland compared to Thai food, and condiments are either chili sauce/paste, soy sauce, or fish sauce with chili only; neither of those I'm using hahaha
I believe it's best so! Thai people start to get unhealhty eating behavior from these condiments.
