A taste of Traditional Taiwanese cuisine at the Golden Mile Food Centre (sg)

After a 20-minute stroll along the Kallang River, I decided to go to the nearest MRT station which is the Nicoll Highway MRT and it turns out that from where I'm coming is also nearby the Golden Mile Food Centre. I figured that another 5-minute walk wouldn't hurt and there are many nice food stalls over there, so I gave in to the temptation.

From the Kallang River, I walk further along Republic Avenue and then turn left to Beach Road which I'm taking for the first time because I usually take the Jalan Sultan route.

As soon as I reached the entrance, I didn't have any idea of what to eat so I decided to scout the whole place and see which stall would catch my interest.

I found myself ordering from the Wen Li Traditional Taiwanese Taste.

I've ordered from this stall before but it was a long time and so I had already forgotten my food experience. A good reason why I have never ordered from it since then is that this shop usually sells fast and close early. They sell fast because it's the kind of meal that's delicious, affordable, and unique to Singapore. To be honest, this is the only food place that I know that sells Taiwanese-style cuisine.

I ordered Set-A. It consists of Taiwanese Braised Pork Rice, Homemade Taiwanese Popcorn Chicken, Soft Boiled Egg, and Chilled Cucumber Salad. That's a lot of variety in a meal and with a price of S$6.80, it's a good deal!

I'm not trying to sound like a "super patron" but I would say that every element of the dish is of good quality. Even the rice itself is of good quality. Every item was made equally well and with careful attention to detail. The one who serves the dish is fast but very careful with the process of assembling the dish. He makes sure that each item in the dish is consistently placed from the 1st order until the last order.

The chicken popcorn is tasty, with crunchy skin, and tender meat, and it's fun to eat with these bite-size pieces.

The cucumber salad was flavorsome, the chili and seasoning were spot on, and the crunch felt fresh.

From this shot, you can tell that it's a perfectly boiled egg. There's no doubt about it.

Individually, I tasted each item and then I also mixed them in the spoon and tried different combinations. At first, I was doubtful about the combination of the items but each of them was flavored and seasoned in such a way that it won't overpower the other. The flavors combine well with each other and I like that the chicken popcorn was placed in a separate bowl, it maintains the crunch of the skin.

I will be back soon to have a taste of this dish and enjoy a sinful but pleasurable meal.

In Vietnam 1 or 2 months ago, this type of egg was also very sought after by young people.

I think it has become popular because of social media. If I'm not wrong, the Japanese people started this trend of cooking eggs. I've eaten this type of soft-boiled egg more than a decade ago in Japanese Ramen shops.
