Bumblebee, Harvests, Melons, Cleaning, Bagging Beans - Monday
Woke up to clouds yesterday morning which hung around till mid day before moving off. There was rain around but none fell on us. It kept the temps rather cool in the morning which was a nice change.
As I went to pick the squash I saw this bumblebee on one of the marigold flowers and it didn't move as I got close. It was preening and I took the opportunity to pet its wings lightly to which it raised one arm up. After it set it down I did it again and this time bumped my finger to its leg.
This picture came out pretty good.
Then I went to pick the squash and decided to take the Chiffon out. It weighs 15.25 pounds and gave me 37.25 for the day.
3/4 of a pound of tomatoes ready with a few larger ones reddening up.
The cucumbers gave me 48 which is 98 in two days. Only a few were wonky of the lot.
Around 2 I loaded the boys up with some wax boxes and we went up to the melon garden. 3 Minnesota midgets were ready to pick. They need to finish ripening but they popped right off the vines. There is TONS of them so in the next couple weeks I should be getting inundated.
These have a LONG time to go before they can be harvested. I picked this one and cut it open, I just about turned my face inside out it was so bitter. Full of seeds, little flesh, I will just ignore them for now and pick the other melons.
4 watermelons were ready and 6 acorn squash. Also picked one Bozeman watermelon which I need to cut the first open to see how it looks and if I am right on maturity of them.
Hundreds of mini cantaloupe lie under that canopy of foliage.
34.5 pounds of melons and 10 pounds of acorn squash.
Did my mile walk and my fingers found more feathers to hold.
I pulled the rubber matting that I had laid down under the carport and began raking out the area. I have two of my 12 foot pallets that I am going to cut to 9 feet today and get them put in and leveled as the base to hold the floor of my glass studio.
I had to get my orders prepped for delivery this morning and after getting the squash and cucumbers bagged and boxed in the cooler I hauled the beans into the house to bag. 35 pounds got bagged, most into 1/2 pound bags. Everything got put in the cooler for the night.
The birds went in surprisingly easy and all the chickens were already in and not perched with the turkeys on the pallets.
I've figured out a nice table setup to work on my new outline. It is a far easier way for me to put the info down in a way that I can easily scan through it. I'm coming up with planet names and different types of gods and worship so this keeps it all logically organized.
This morning I have been to the co-op for delivery and home. I have to go get harvests done now, keep working on the glass studio area, I need to give the turkey chicks an area outside the brooder now they are getting bigger, and the tomatoes need trimming again.

Wow! Well done you 👏
Nice shot of the bumblebee, and pretty flower too.
Reaping all this at once is amazing!
The crop looks good despite the erratic weather we've experienced globally.
Hmm, there has been a shortage of cucumbers in some supermarkets here in the UK, which I thought was a bit strange. Seeing this gives me hope:)))
I'm sure a good bit of produce over there is coming from the south, the UK doesn't seem like it has much of an outdoor growing season. Hopefully the greenhouses are pumping out the produce to try and keep up. You just need a small barge behind your boat that you can put a hydroponics setup and a little greenhouse on, tow it around the canals.
Haha! That sounds like a clever idea.
I am not very knowledgeable about that, but I know that they've suffered even more to the heatwave. Also, they've closed some canal routes temporary due to drought and low water levels. There has been some light showers this week, so we've see what improvements there is. 🤞
Do I sense NaNoWriMo looming on the horizon?
Still 2 months off but I need to have a plan for once. Pantsing has done me no help in finishing any story ever so it is time to do proper writing by creating an outline first, something I have not done since high school.
At the library, we are weighing what to do for writers leading up to, and during, November. We tried having weekly Come Write In events and no one showed all month. Ever. But post-COVID, there is some hope of renewed interest. Then again, they still want us to follow paranoia-level policies.
Yeah NaNo still is not advocating for in person write-ins.... they are in Berkeley... 🤡
Our Spokane group is plugging along on Discord still so that will likely be it again this year.
Maybe we should coincidentally reserve some... non-denominational... writing spaces in November...
So I stand corrected.

My tomatoes are not doing very well this year. We are so desperate for rain here in southern Cali. It makes me so happy to see your harvest and the way things are running smoothly in your home! Such
Inspiration❤️
Smooth is relative... Lol. The farm has finally shifted into high gear so harvest are looking good but I can tell it will likely be an early year so I am trying to preserve as much as I can. Hard when this batch of watermelon has taken over 100 hours in the freeze dryer...
