Travel Post 36 - Meizhou Day 3, Howard Johnson Hotel Lobby + Meixian People's Square At Night

Hi everyone. Here is another travel post by me in this series.

Our group enjoy our stay in Meizhou, China for day 3.

Visiting Howard Johnson Hotel Lobby

A family friend led the way into visiting the Howard Johnson Hotel in Meizhou. One of the early members in our travel group kept hyping up this hotel. This member was not able to meet the physical demands of walking a lot so he separated from the group back in Shanghai. We wanted to check out the lobby of this hotel at least.

I wish I took more photos of the lobby. Most are family photos so I can't show those. Here is one lobby photo of the hotel.

Yixin Hotel Restaurant

For dinner our group wanted to try out the restaurant in our hotel. It was located in one of the middle floors. To access your floor to get to your hotel room, you do need your hotel card. For the restaurant in the hotel, no hotel card is needed. This restaurant visit was also to try out the food before inviting 20 something people for a larger meal as a treat. (Canadian dollars have good purchasing power here in Meizhou, China after forex rates)

This restaurant has open area dining tables as well as private rooms. In the Toronto area, tables with a private room are kind of rare. In addition they can be pricey. Here in Meizhou, China prices for a private room are super affordable if you come from North America or Europe.

In the first picture above, we had Steamed Chicken on the top right. There is also fried tofu that is steamed after. It has a savoury sauce on top. This tofu dish was perhaps the best tofu I've ever had in my life. Soft inside with a tasty sauce.

From the second picture the two items featured in that picture are scallops with vermicelli clear noodles with a garlic and onion mix on top.

I think we ordered something like 3 or 4 dishes plus rice. For the cost of this dinner I don't remember. Probably no more than 40 CAD after CNY conversion. This is pretty good value especially as we had a private room.

Meixian People's Square

In the evening we met up with our family friends. We walked into Meixian People's Square. At that time I did not know the place so I had to look it up while writing this post.

Every evening people set up activities and the older adults & seniors do public dancing to live music from their speakers. A lot of lights and sound at this place. These night activities can be found in certain spots in Chinese cities (small, big and mega).

These activities and festivities occur every single night. Maybe not on nights with bad weather as there was one evening where there was almost rain & thunderstorms.
