When it comes to meat, it's gotta be Meaty Hot Pot!
Meaty Hot Pot Hotpot is a Taiwanese hotpot chain known for its high value for money. Just like its name suggests, it's perfect for those with big appetites or meat lovers. I've heard that during customers' birthdays, the restaurant gives out a pretty impressive meat cake. They stack slices of hotpot meat in the shape of a cake using acrylic as a base. Many influencers and regular folks alike take photos, check in, or upload pictures of the meat cake, which is a clever marketing tactic. But if you're undecided about where to celebrate your birthday at the last minute, going to Meaty Hot Pot and snagging a birthday deal is a decent option.
The weather has been really cold lately, and whenever it gets chilly, it's tough to book a table at popular hotpot spots. Especially during the Lantern Festival, there's even more crowd in Ximending. While strolling through the pedestrian area with my friends, we spotted the sign of Meaty Hot Pot and decided to try our luck. Fortunately, there was still space inside, and the dining area was quite comfortable. So, we ordered a combination pot with one side being spicy and the other side with lamb broth. It's the kind of weather where you crave something spicy. However, if you can't handle too much spice, the lamb broth side offers a milder option.
They have a self-service bar with over 35 different hotpot ingredients, and there's a wide variety of sauces too. Personally, I stick to soy sauce, satay sauce, sesame oil, and chopped scallions. Unfortunately, many hotpot places nowadays don't provide raw eggs for customers to mix their sauce, which enhances the flavor when you dip beef slices into the egg mixture and sauce. As for staples, they offer common choices like instant noodles, vermicelli, and knife-cut noodles. My friend loves eating noodles at hotpot places; he enjoys how they absorb the flavors of the broth, making them tastier than regular noodles. As for me, I'm here for the meat slices and hotpot ingredients. Starchy foods just take up space in my stomach, so I don't bother with them.
For our meat selections, we went for the basics: beef slices, pork slices, and chicken legs. Comparatively, the spicy broth is better, and all the hotpot ingredients taste delicious once they've been cooked in it. Generally, you don't really need hotpot sauces because everything tastes great on its own after cooking in the spicy broth. The downside is, if it's too spicy, you'll need some drinks to cool down the heat. They have coffee machines, drink dispensers, and even a slushie machine, but the selection of ice cream is not extensive. However, since I'm not much of a dessert person, it doesn't bother me much. Overall, the experience was excellent. Besides the impressive giant meat platter, they also offer an all-you-can-eat self-service bar, making it a hotpot chain with great value for money.
