It was time to visit someone in the hospital again. On a whim, I went online to see if there were any hidden gem food spots nearby, and I found this wonton specialty shop. Wontons are generally believed to date back to the Han Dynasty. They’re made with thin flour wrappers filled with minced meat. In Fujian, they’re called Bian Shi, in Guangdong they’re called Wonton, and in Sichuan they’re called Chao Shou. Basically, it’s the same kind of food, just with different names depending on the region.

The shop mainly focuses on wontons. It’s an old restaurant that’s been open for over 30 years, and they offer different combo options to meet customers’ needs. For example, wontons with fish balls for more texture, wontons with fish balls for a more filling meal, and wontons with tangyuan (glutinous rice balls) for more variety. The combo most recommended online is tangyuan + wontons + fish balls, which basically lets you try all of the shop’s signature items in one meal.

When I arrived, I had to line up for a few minutes, but luckily I got seated pretty quickly. The place was packed and seats were hard to find, so business must be really good. I ordered a bowl of wontons to try first. When I took a bite, the wrapper was smooth and soft, and the filling was juicy. The pork flavor mixed with scallions and seasoning slowly spread in my mouth. It tasted pretty good. I also ordered a meatball. The filling was minced pork mixed with bamboo shoots, and the outside was fried, giving it a chewy, bouncy texture. With their special sauce on top, the meatball tasted sweet and savory. Overall, it was a solid food spot; definitely not a disappointing find.
