祖傳三代的炸物名店 / A renowned three-generation-old shop famous for its fried delicacies
賣蚵嗲的店家很多,蚵嗲之家是一家祖傳三代,在金門當地,無人不知無人不曉的老店,它位於金門老街附近的知名景點,邱良功母節孝坊的旁邊,店家的位置真的是很好,只要去觀看邱良功母節孝坊的話,一定會被店家前門始終不斷的排隊人潮,所吸引住的,蚵嗲之家聽說只有下午時段才會營業,當天賣完的話,只能隔天再來排隊品嚐,所以要想吃到的話,還要看運氣。
我在打算要在附近閒逛時,事先有用網路搜尋過附近有那些美食,而蚵嗲之家的評價蠻高的,評價上說是在地人及觀光客推薦之必吃美食之一,所以,我有點印象,我在老街周邊,邊看邊逛時,發現這個時段有開的美食店家不多,只有兩家賣炸物的店家有開,其中一家就是蚵嗲之家,另一家攤位前,完全不需要排隊,比較之下,蚵嗲之家前的隊伍排得很長,看來這家店賣的食物,應該好吃,剛好我也不太趕時間,就來品嚐看看這家祖傳三代的美味小吃。
因為是現點現做的關係,排隊的人潮消化得很慢,此外,排在我前面的人,一次就買個八九十顆蚵嗲,蚵嗲只要賣完,就要再等另一鍋出爐,所以,只能慢慢等了,本來我也想仿效前面排隊的人,也買的四五六顆蚵嗲,但是轉念一想,我只想品嚐看看味道,其實一顆就夠了,另外,假如我買多的話,我後面的人要排更久,所以,最後就只買一顆,我猜,我可能是這條排隊人龍中買最少的一位顧客。
店家賣一顆蚵嗲要價四十五元,其實不算便宜,排隊時間也超過三十分鐘,當我一口咬下,內餡含有切碎的高麗菜絲和金門在地的石蚵,搭配店家特製蒜蓉醬,味道還行,但是內餡的石蚵超少的,我幾乎都在吃蔬菜及醬料,和我想像中差蠻多的,早知道我就去吃那家不用排隊攤位的蚵嗲,我猜,味道應該差不多,再仔細看看店家的網路評價,很多人都提到非常值得排隊買來吃,但是也有顧客提到,他是看旅遊節目介紹,特地去排隊買的,麵粉及蔬菜比較多,蚵比較少,沒有想像中好吃,有點失望,因為這次的經驗,讓我對附近店家們的評價,打了個問號,但我也不會特別去評價店家。
常常看到新聞上,很多賣食物的店家會和顧客,針對評價上的留言針鋒相對,其實,有關於好味道這件事情,本來就是每個人的認知都不太一樣,店家不能強求,每個人都喜歡自家店的口味,只要看到負面評論就暴跳如雷,而食物的價錢是否便宜公道,每個人心中都有一把尺,大家其實都知道疫情期間,店家生存不易,很多良心好店都關店休息,大部份的人還是希望能有更多良心好店重新開張,創造正向循環。
There are many shops selling oyster omelets, and "Oyster Omelet House" is one of those legendary places, passed down through three generations, located in Kinmen, known by everyone in the area. It's situated near the famous spot, Qiu Lianggong Mother Filial Piety Archway, in the vicinity of Kinmen's old street. The location is prime, as the constant queue in front of the shop always catches the attention of those visiting the archway. I've heard that Oyster Omelet House only operates in the afternoon. If they sell out for the day, you'll have to come back the next day to queue up again for a taste, so it's a bit of a luck game to get your hands on it.
While planning to wander around the area, I had previously searched online for nearby eateries, and Oyster Omelet House had quite high ratings. Locals and tourists alike recommended it as a must-try delicacy. So, it stuck in my mind. As I strolled around the old street, I noticed there weren't many eateries open during this time. There were only two stalls selling fried foods, and one of them was Oyster Omelet House. The other stall had no queue at all. Comparatively, the queue at Oyster Omelet House was quite long, indicating that the food they sell should be delicious. Since I wasn't in a rush, I decided to give this third-generation family-owned eatery a try.
Due to the made-to-order nature of their food, the queue moved slowly. Additionally, the people in front of me were buying around eighty to ninety oyster omelets each time. Once they sold out, we'd have to wait for another batch to be cooked. So, I had to wait patiently. Initially, I thought about following suit and buying four to five oyster omelets, but then I thought better of it. I only wanted to taste the flavor, so one piece would suffice. Moreover, if I bought more, the people behind me would have to wait even longer. So, in the end, I only bought one. I guess I might have been the customer who bought the least among the queue.
Each oyster omelet was priced at forty-five NT dollars, which wasn't cheap considering the wait time was over thirty minutes. When I took a bite, I found the filling to be mainly shredded cabbage and Kinmen's local oysters, complemented by the house's special garlic sauce. The taste was okay, but there were very few oysters in it. I ended up mostly eating the vegetables and sauce, which was quite different from what I had imagined. In hindsight, I should have gone to the oyster omelet stall without the queue. I guess the taste would be similar. Looking closely at the online reviews of the shop, many people mentioned it was worth queuing up for, but some customers also pointed out that they were disappointed. They had heard about it from travel shows, queued specifically for it, but found there was more flour and vegetables than oysters, not as tasty as expected. This experience made me question the evaluations of nearby eateries, but I won't specifically review the shop.
I often see news where food vendors engage in heated exchanges with customers over comments on reviews. The thing about good taste is that everyone's perception is different. Shops can't force everyone to like their own taste. Just because they see a negative review, they shouldn't fly off the handle. As for whether the food is reasonably priced, everyone has their own scale. Most people understand that it's not easy for businesses to survive during the pandemic. Many conscientious shops have closed temporarily. Most people hope that more conscientious shops will reopen, creating a positive cycle.
