In simple terms, a night market is like a marketplace that comes alive in the evening. Almost every county or city has its own night market, some of which are quite distinctive. For example, there's the Dongdamen Night Market in Hualien, which is not only the only night market in Hualien city but also stands out for its strong indigenous vibes. My favorite part about it is the indigenous-style snacks, like the Magao sausage. However, some night markets are just gatherings of vendors, and once the crowds disperse, the market disappears.

Most night market vendors set up their stalls in the evening. Years ago, when my friends and I were on a cruise trip, we had to wait at the Keelung Port Authority for boarding. Being unfamiliar with Keelung, we arrived there quite early, around noon. We've heard a lot about the Keelung Miaokou Night Market, as Keelung is a harbor city where seafood is relatively cheap. Due to its strategic location, the market offers a wide variety of seafood snacks like Dingbian Noodles and Crab Soup, along with other renowned snacks like Fried Sandwich with Salad. I'm not sure why Fried Sandwich with Salad became a famous snack here because you can find them elsewhere too, but my friends insisted they're a must-try at the Keelung Miaokou Night Market, so we grabbed a portion to taste. Well, to me, it was just a Fried Sandwich with Salad.

Honestly, the bustling atmosphere of the Keelung Miaokou Night Market during the day caught me off guard. There were long queues in front of several well-known stalls. I later guessed that many of the people strolling through the night market were tourists waiting to board cruise ships. Otherwise, even during weekdays, you wouldn't see such crowded scenes, not even at Taipei's famous Shilin Night Market. As out-of-town visitors like us, we could only explore the more well-known night markets to kill time.

Actually, the area of the Keelung Miaokou Night Market isn't that large; it's just a pedestrianized street. After filling our bellies, we strolled around the vicinity of the Keelung Miaokou Night Market. Suddenly, I spotted another long queue in front of a well-known shop called Fish Ball Uncle. I had seen this shop featured on food shows before. They sell Keelung specialties like tofu pouches, fish balls, and mung bean noodles. Wow! I really wanted to try them. Judging by the length of the queue, we would have to wait for about thirty minutes to dine in. However, our stomachs were already full from the earlier night market delights, so we decided to save it for next time when we have the chance to come back and taste more local delicacies.
