Hey lovelies ❤️

Welcome to my blog 🤗

In today's post I will be sharing with you how to make Chin chin. But before we delve into the topic of today I would like to ask how your weekend was spent. I'm pretty sure in all you did you created time to rest and spend quality time with your loved ones. It is the beginning of another week and I strongly believe that with dedication and determination we will achieve all our set goals for the week.

Chin chin is a snack that is popular across every nook and cranny in Nigeria among all age groups especially children and youths. It is a snack that is made from flour, butter, milk and sugar (the essential ingredients) and eggs, baking powder, pepper, nutmeg, coconut etc (the optional ingredients which may affect the texture, that is, how crunchy or soft the chin chin is, the flavour and how spicy you want it to taste).

Also, this snack can be cut into different shapes such as long rodlike shapes, squares, triangle. But the most popular shape is the cube shape. I cut some rectangular shape and cube shape. The rectangular shape is for my son - this is to prevent him from swallowing the small cube shaped ones.

Ingredients Needed

  • 1 cup of flour

  • ½ tsp baking powder

  • ½ cup sugar

  • 110 grams baking margarine

  • ½ cup milk

  • 1 egg

  • A pinch of nutmeg

  • Oil

Step by Step

  • Start by sieving your flour to remove tiny particles

  • Next, combine the flour and baking powder in a large bowl and mix until it is well mixed.

  • Add your sugar, nutmeg and baking margarine and mix thoroughly too.

  • Then crack in your egg and mix thoroughly with the mix too.

  • Add the milk into the flour and mix all together. Be sure not to add too much water in the mix so that your dough won't be too soft and sticky.
    1000134632.jpg

  • Now, on a flat surface roll the dough and cut into your desired shape and sizes.1000134634.jpg

  • So, I'm going to be using two methods to make my chin chin - the frying method and oven baking method. I have been seeing the oven baked method online so I would like to give it a try.
    1000134635.jpg

  • Set the oil on meduim heat, when the oil is hot enough add the cut dough and fry till it is golden brown.
    1000134636.jpg

  • For the baked one, gently place the dough on your baking tray and place into the preheated oven and allow to bake until it is brown. Then gently flip the sides to ensure both sides are well baked.
    1000134637.jpg

  • However, the baking method was quite stressful and the baking was not even. So, I had to fry all to give it a even look.

  • Your chin chin is ready.

Thanks for reading and see you in my next one.
