Why Simple Food Feels Just Right
Usually, I feel exhausted on Friday nights because of all my activities during the week. So, I simply take a good rest and head back home. Grabbing a warm bowl of noodles comforts me and makes me feel better afterward.
I don’t fancy the expensive kinds of noodles because noodles, to me, are meant to be simple. They shouldn't be overcomplicated. In fact, I believe the best noodles are the simplest handmade ones, freshly prepared.
I’m really glad there are plenty of noodle shops in the city to choose from. Still, I have my go-to spots that I visit often because I want to support the owners. Supporting local small businesses is something I take pride in, rather than going to big, commercialized places.
I slipped into the hawker centre after work, still a little wired from the day, and ordered my usual dry noodles. The bowl arrived looking like a tiny festival of textures. Curling noodles at the bottom, glossy with dark soy, already smelled comforting.
I had a bowl of noodles with a variety of toppings. The exciting thing about this dish is that it’s packed with different flavors and textures, yet it still feels well-balanced. The texture includes a nice crunch from the deep-fried wonton, while the fishball adds a springy, bouncy bite. I also enjoyed the vegetables—even though there weren't many, they still added a healthy touch to the dish.
Since it was already nighttime, I chose to skip the chili. If you’ve been following my blog lately, you’ll know I’ve been avoiding foods that could trigger my acid reflux or hyperacidity.
What I like most is how this meal never weighs me down. It fills me just enough to feel warm inside, but I can still stroll home without that sleepy heaviness. Maybe that is why noodles have become my comfort food of choice.
I finished the last strand, wiped the bowl clean and left the table smiling. Simple moments like this keep me grounded, even on an ordinary Friday. 🍜
Ending the day with a comforting bowl of noodles is always a simple pleasure I look forward to. It’s a reminder that good food doesn’t have to be complicated to be satisfying. Until next time, take care and keep enjoying the little things that bring you joy.
As someone who also gets wiped out by Friday night, this is super relatable. Just thinking of a quiet dinner and comfy walk home makes me feel better already.
Right?
Sometimes, that simple dinner and a peaceful stroll is the best way to recharge. Glad you could relate! 😊
Bon appetit to you friend
