Night Cycling in Singapore (and a Late-Night Noodle Reward)

Lately, I’ve been starting my cycling a little later than usual, when the sky is already dark, the roads feel calmer, and the city begins to glow in its own way. Night cycling is something I only recently picked up, and honestly, it’s been so far (in the best sense). Even with Singapore’s unpredictable weather these days, I still manage to enjoy the experience, because this city is just perfect for it.

There’s a different kind of peace once the sun goes down. The heat is no longer pressing on your shoulders, the air feels lighter, and the streets look cleaner, almost like they’ve been freshly “reset” for the night shift. The ride becomes relaxing, but it also carries a tiny thrill… especially when the route starts to twist and turn, and you’re reading the road ahead like it’s a moving puzzle. I like that balance: calm enough to clear my head, exciting enough to keep me alert.

And if you’re like me, someone who appreciates discovering new food places and little landmarks, night cycling becomes more than just exercise. It turns into a mini road trip. You don’t even need to leave the city for it to feel like an adventure. Singapore is highly walkable and bike-friendly in many areas, and places like Kallang and Bishan are always worth revisiting. There’s something satisfying about gliding through familiar neighborhoods and still finding a corner you’ve never noticed before.

Of course, cycling with a group makes everything better. The city feels safer and livelier when you’re not alone, and you end up sharing small discoveries in real time, like “eh, that place is still open!” or “let’s take this route next time.” So yes, I encourage everyone to try night cycling as a group if you can. It’s one of those activities that instantly becomes a memory, even if it’s just a casual ride.

Tonight’s best part, though? The reward at the end.

After a good run around the city, I found myself walking into The Daily Inn (Bishan area), and I was genuinely glad they were still open. A lot of other food centres nearby were already closed for the night, but this one still had life in it. The lights were bright, the tables were busy, and the whole vibe felt like a little late-night sanctuary for hungry wanderers.

I ended up ordering the Home Made Noodle Dry from the Mee Hoon Kueh / City Plaza Home Made Noodle stall, and I chose You Mian. The dish came in one of those stainless steel bowls that just screams “hawker comfort,” piled with springy noodles, vegetables, meatballs, mushrooms, and fresh prawns. I have to say, those prawns surprised me. It was already late, so I had that small worry that they might not be as fresh anymore, but they were firm and sweet, and tasted like they were handled well the whole day. Props to that.

Let me show you the highlights in my photos: the glossy noodles lifted by chopsticks, the prawn shining in sauce, and that simple side of soup that completes the meal without trying too hard.

I also ordered Teh-O Lemon Iced, served in a tall metal cup with a lemon slice floating on top, super refreshing, especially after cycling when you’re already thirsty and a bit “heat drained.”

And because I wanted something extra to go with it, I added a couple of Siew Mai too. Simple, warm, and just enough to make the meal feel complete.

After finishing everything, I was officially full, and honestly, happy. This is why I enjoy night cycling: it’s an adventure through the city, plus the bonus of discovering a new food place I’ll definitely revisit in the near future.

Cheers to more night rides (and more late-night rewards).

That merlion is an iconic one. That dried noodle is good, I tried it before!
