Da Michele, the tradition of Neapolitan pizza 🍕
The history of neapolitan pizza is very deep, from when pizza was considered food for the poor to today when it has now become gourmet. However, there are some historic pizzerias that have decided to export throughout Italy, and beyond, the goodness of simple pizza, made of a few simple and genuine ingredients, while offering a product of excellence, a symbol of Italian food in the world.


The Da Michele pizzeria was born in Naples and over time has exported the Neapolitan tradition to many cities. A few steps from the historic center of Bari, near Piazza Ferrarese, one of the best pizzerias in Italy opened here a few months ago, also overlooking one of the most populated streets of the city. The pizzeria is located on a corner and has an outdoor space with limited tables compared to those inside.


The Da Michele logo is everywhere, even on the paper placemats placed on the tables, as well as on the paper napkins or on the walls of the premises. The menu they served us is very concise, the number of pizzas available is limited, including the margherita pizza, my favourite. The peculiarity of truly Neapolitan pizza is not the duplicity of the dough but the ability to roll it out thinly and cook it in a wood-fired oven, which is not such a simple undertaking.
At the table, the pizza is so large that it overflows the plate, an effect intended to demonstrate the size and quality of the dough. In reality the pizza is very thin and well spread out, the frame is thicker, in some cases it is also stuffed, but I guarantee you that it is not easy to finish such a large pizza, which is why I also advise against ordering starters, especially if you have I'm going to eat a whole pizza.


Da Michele you can also order the calzone intended as a large fried panzerotto, filled with mozzarella and sauce, with gigantic dimensions, beyond those of the dish itself. A delicacy also for trained stomachs as the frying is very good but also requires a long time for digestion.

The Margherita pizza costs 8 euros, a price slightly above average, but the size of the pizza and the goodness of the products used are certainly worth every single penny. There is also a small dessert menu but honestly it is really challenging to go beyond pizza. The staff was always very kind, they even asked us for a small online review to advertise the new location in Bari.
