Today I had the privilege of trying a traditional Chinese pastry that was beautifully presented; just looking at it makes you want to eat it. It’s called a mooncake; it was filled with sweet black beans and a salty egg yolk, and the dough was delicious—made with wheat flour, it was both soft and slightly crunchy at the same time. What impressed me most when I saw it was that beautiful design on top; without a doubt, the makers go to great lengths to turn these little pastries into tiny works of art.

When I tasted it, I discovered that it’s one of those flavors that might seem strange at first, but then the contrast between the sweet and the salty ends up being very interesting.

What made me like it even more was the way it came into my hands: it was a gift given with a lot of love by someone who cares about me and whom I love very much; that’s why I appreciated it so much.

So, it wasn’t just about trying a new treat; it was also about receiving a small gesture of affection and learning a little more about another culture.

If you ever have the chance to try it, don’t hesitate for a second.

What did you think?
