Mysterious Sweet Desserts From My Kitchen

Food always has a way of looking back on us.
Good memories are bad too, some of them come with food.

Eating is not just a necessity to keep us alive. More than that, many of us take advantage of eating activities to gather with other family members. At the dinner table while sharing stories because it is not certain that at other times we can gather together at.

Desserts are served in the form of balls. It takes me back in time when I just married my husband. And, my father-in-law is still alive. I brought sweet desserts in the form of orange-yellow balls. Guess what? My late father-in-law didn't want to eat the desserts I made. I was quite shocked at that time because I thought I wasn't good enough to cook.

But then, as if the problem was over at that time. My late father-in-law explained that he thought they were pumpkin balls. He doesn't like pumpkins. So, he didn't eat my desserts. I also respect that opinion and my heart accepts it. Does not matter.

The most important thing is that my mother-in-law, and sister-in-law said that they like sweet desserts balls made from Sweet potatoes not from pumpkin as my late father-in-law thought.

Be back with the topic now. I edited the final result of my dessert shoot to be black and white to create a mysterious impression. I call it mysterious because my late father-in-law got the wrong idea about the ingredients of these desserts.

Well, these sweet dessert balls can indeed be made with many variations of ingredients. The most popular in my area is made from sweet potato and pumpkin. For flour, use glutinous rice flour to create a chewy texture but still soft when bitten.

Actually, I've often shared recipes for sweet potato balls or pumpkin balls as desserts here on my hive blog. Of course, the visualization and stories that accompany the making of these desserts are different at every moment. Usually, I serve these desserts in bowls. This time I want to present something different. I serve sweet potato balls with glasses.

THE INGREDIENTS

  • 3-4 sweet potatoes
  • enough glutinous rice flour to knead the dough
  • 250 grams of brown sugar, chopped
  • 500 ml of water
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • pandan leaves or you can use vanilla to create the great fragrance
  • 50 ml of thick coconut milk

COOKING INSTRUCTIONS

STEP 1

Cooking sweet potatoes. Boil or steam them. Either way, it doesn't affect the taste. Sometimes, I also cook them by steam.

STEP 2

Mash sweet potatoes that have been drained from the water. Mash while they are warm to make the job easier.

STEP 3

Add the glutinous rice flour little by little until the dough is successfully formed into balls. Add a little fine salt to make them taste savory later.

STEP 4

Knead the dough. It doesn't matter if there's a bit of sweet potato flesh that looks like it can't blend well with the dough.

STEP 5

Shape the dough into sweet potato balls. It takes patience to do this. But we can while listening to music or watching movies to get rid of boredom. That's what I often do.

STEP 6

Bring the water to a boil. Then add the sweet photo balls. Cook them until the sweet potato balls float above the surface of the water.

Remove the sweet potato balls then drain. They look chewy. great! Meanwhile, we can prepare the brown sugar sauce.

STEP 7

Cook chopped brown sugar with water and pandan leaves. Then, strain them, and transfer them back to the saucepan. After that, then added sweet potato balls. Bring to a boil again while continuing to stir.

SERVE.

1EA64AC9-8E30-4790-BADC-01E899CAE7EF.jpeg

Serve sweet potato balls with brown sugar sauce, also a few tablespoons of thick coconut milk. Well, the coconut milk looks hard on the surface of the sauce. That's because I added thick coconut milk on top of the still-hot brown sugar sauce. You can stir them to change the consistency of the texture as well as incorporate the sweetness from the brown sugar, as well as savory coconut milk.

Sweet potato balls are similar to the "boba" drink that has gone viral in recent years. It's just that "boba" is made from tapioca flour. But they are almost the same chewiness. They are both worth trying. See you!

Hi, I don't like pumpkin either, but I do like the desserts made with it, the cake is delicious. I liked the step by step, the dessert looks very good, it is something very different from what I'm used to, but I like it. At the moment I had the illusion that the hardened coconut milk was marshmallows, thanks for clarifying. Greetings.
