Casting my vote for Mitsuko, there is a quiet cool there that sneaks up on you. The large Akabeko are my favorites, they just light up a walk. Which place in Aizu do you link Mitsuko with, and is there a spot where the truly huge ones tend to show up?

If you want to get close to those red cows you need to head to a town called Yan-aizu. The whole story of the akabeko derives from there and you can encounter those big red fellows upclose.
Yanaizu it is, thanks for the tip. Is there a museum or workshop where you can try painting an akabeko, or a festival day when the big ones come out. Also, is Mitsuko tied to a spot in Yanaizu or another corner of Aizu. What season is best to meet them up close without big crowds?
Yes there shot be some workshops where you can paint your own cow. usually Yanaizu shouldn't be too crowded so every season will be fine. But maybe autumn will be the most beautiful when all the fall colors come out and add a very special touch to this already wonderful landscape. Hope you can visit there some day soon!
