Choose your Akabeko =/= Wähle deine Akabeko 👹🍣🎎 Wonderful Japan ENG-GER
Those of you who have been following my posts should have already noticed the fancy red cows that roam around a very special part of Japan. These cows, called Akabeko, have become a distinctive trademark of the Aizu region and I'm not the only one who has grown quite fond of them.
They come in all different sizes, but I almost think the bigger the better. Even if the Akabeko are hard to miss because of their red color, they look even better in the larger versions.
Just look at them, who could just walk past without taking a closer look and without a little smile on their face? Exactly, nobody!
And that's why today we're looking three pretty Akabekos straight in the face and deciding which one we think is the most stylish. I find it hard to decide myself, as I also associate all three with different places. And I hope to visit these places again this year and would be delighted to meet our three friends there.
But I'm talking far too much again. I'd better introduce our candidates. From top to bottom, we have:
Fukutaro 福太郎
Mitsuko 満子 und
Yanagimaru やなぎまる
Who is going to be the winner today and who can I bring some special compliments to on our next visit to the Aizu region?

Denjenigen von euch, die meine Beiträge verfolgen, sollten die schicken roten Kühe bereits aufgefallen sein, die sich in einem ganz speziellen Landstrich Japans herumtreiben. Diese Akabeko genannten Kühe sind ein markantes Markenzeichen der Aizu-Region geworden und nicht nur mir sind sie mittlerweile ein wenig ans Herz gewachsen.
Es gibt sie in den verschiedensten Größen, wobei ich aber fast finde, je größer, desto besser. Auch wenn man die Akabeko schon wegen ihrer roten Farbe nur schwer übersehen kann, machen sie doch in den größeren Varianten erst recht was her.
Schaut sie euch doch an, wer könnte hier denn einfach so vorbeigehen, ohne nicht genauer hinzuschauen und dabei nicht auch ein kleines Lächeln in seinem Gesicht zu zeigen? Genau, keiner!
Und daher gucken wir heute drei schicken Akabekos direkt ins Gesicht und überlegen uns dabei, welche wir denn am schicksten finden. Ich selber kann mich nur schwer entscheiden, auch weil ich alle drei mit jeweils verschiedenen Orten in Verbindung bringe. Und genau diese Orte hoffe ich auch in diesem Jahr wieder zu besuchen und würde mich freuen, dabei unsere drei Freunde anzutreffen.
Aber ich spreche schon wieder viel zu viel. Ich stelle besser unsere Kandidaten vor. Von oben nach unten haben wir:

Casting my vote for Mitsuko, there is a quiet cool there that sneaks up on you. The large Akabeko are my favorites, they just light up a walk. Which place in Aizu do you link Mitsuko with, and is there a spot where the truly huge ones tend to show up?

If you want to get close to those red cows you need to head to a town called Yan-aizu. The whole story of the akabeko derives from there and you can encounter those big red fellows upclose.
Yanaizu it is, thanks for the tip. Is there a museum or workshop where you can try painting an akabeko, or a festival day when the big ones come out. Also, is Mitsuko tied to a spot in Yanaizu or another corner of Aizu. What season is best to meet them up close without big crowds?
Yes there shot be some workshops where you can paint your own cow. usually Yanaizu shouldn't be too crowded so every season will be fine. But maybe autumn will be the most beautiful when all the fall colors come out and add a very special touch to this already wonderful landscape. Hope you can visit there some day soon!
