Fried fish, one of my favorite dishes

No sé cómo será para ustedes, pero para mi comer pescado es un LUJO, no tanto por el precio, porque considero que no es tan costoso para lio delicioso que es, sino que donde vivo es muy difícil conseguir pescado… O al menos conseguir pescado fresco, ya que en el supermercado venden pescados, pero siempre se ven feos, metidos en bandejas pequeñas y negros, putrefactos… No exagero, en serio se ve terrible ese pescado. De vez en cuando vienen unas personas a vender pescado cerca de acá, lo único malo es que es algo que pasa una vez cada cierto tiempo, no tienen un horario fijo ni un día especifico para venir, justamente hoy iban a ponerse a vender pescado cerca de mi casa y por suerte tenia algo de dinero para ir a comprar.

I don't know what it's like for you guys, but for me, eating fish is a LUXURY—not so much because of the price, since I don't think it's that expensive for something as delicious as it is, but because where I live, it's really hard to find fish… Or at least to find fresh fish, since the supermarket sells fish, but it always looks gross—stuffed into small trays, black and rotten… I’m not exaggerating; that fish really does look terrible. Every once in a while, some people come to sell fish near here, but the only downside is that it happens only once in a while—they don’t have a set schedule or a specific day to come. Just today, they were going to set up to sell fish near my house, and luckily I had some money to go buy some.

Sinceramente ya no recuerdo que pescados escogí pero compre dos kilos de uno y un kilo de otro, es bastante pescado, si hubiese tenido mas dinero me compraba por lo menos 6 kilos porque lo amo demasiado, frito, en sopa, a la plancha… el pescado sencillamente es exquisito… Y más si no tiene muchas espinas, asi se disfruta muchísimo mejor. El lugar estaba muy lleno de personas y fue bastante lento la atención, pero la paciencia es la clave, me fui bastante feliz de saber que hoy se almorzaría pescado.

To be honest, I don't remember exactly which kinds of fish I chose, but I bought two kilos of one and one kilo of another—that's quite a lot of fish. If I'd had more money, I would have bought at least six kilos because I love it so much: fried, in soup, grilled… the fish is simply exquisite… And even more so if it doesn't have many bones—that way, you can enjoy it so much more. The place was packed with people and the service was pretty slow, but patience is key. I left feeling pretty happy knowing that I’d be having fish for lunch today.

Para el almuerzo decidí prepara el pescado acompañado de ensalada de lechuga con tomate y papas sancochadas, creo que no hay una comida mejor que esta para mi… amo cada ingrediente que utilice hoy, me dio mucho gusto cocinar. El pescado estaba bastante fresco y bien cortado, asi que no tuve que sufrir cortándolo yo misma, solo lo dejé reposando con sal, pimienta, salsa de ajo. Luego coloque el sartén con bastante aceite y después de que se calentara lo suficiente, agregue el pescado el cual pase primero por harina de trigo.

For lunch, I decided to make fish served with a lettuce salad, tomatoes, and boiled potatoes. I don’t think there’s a better meal than this for me… I love every ingredient I used today; I really enjoyed cooking. The fish was very fresh and already cut into pieces, so I didn’t have to struggle cutting it myself—I just let it marinate with salt, pepper, and garlic sauce. Then I put a pan with plenty of oil on the stove, and after it got hot enough, I added the fish, which I had first coated in flour.

Lo cocine hasta dejarlo doradito y mientras se freía el pescado sancoché las papas y prepare la ensalada, obviamente lavando primero las verduras con un poco de vinagre.

I cooked it until it was golden brown, and while the fish was frying, I parboiled the potatoes and prepared the salad—after washing the vegetables with a little vinegar, of course.

Al principio quería que la ensalada fuese con lechuga tomate y limón, pero me di cuenta que ocuparía limón para mi pescado, porque si, siento que el pescado con limón es aún más superior, entonces seria demasiado colocarle limón a ambas cosas, entonces decidí hacer la ensalada con mayonesa. De verdad que esta combinación fue divina, tenia mucho tiempo sin disfrutar TANTO un almuerzo.

At first, I wanted to make a salad with lettuce, tomatoes, and lemon, but then I realized I’d need the lemon for my fish—because, honestly, I think fish tastes even better with lemon—so it would be too much to add lemon to both. So I decided to make the salad with mayonnaise instead. Seriously, this combination was divine; it had been a long time since I’d enjoyed lunch SO much.
